La Liga | Round 30: Real Madrid - FC Barcelona 2-1

what is with this meltdown? you are high on copium lads. Wasn't a penalty. I would really like if it was but it just wasn't. Crying about not given penalties is always telling of an inferior team in a given game. We were outplayed tonight but unlucky not to score in the end.

As usual alot of knee jerk reactions here. This is a club in transition and we are using alot of youngsters who are STILL VERY RAW.
Real Madrid are going to fade next season. Zidane is going to have one last hurrah and he will leave. I'd be very surprised if he is still here next season. That midfield trio is getting old and will only get worse.
It's obvious we are still lacking in areas. We need another cb, a physical midfielder and a proper striker and that's just the minimum.
If you are going to play youngsters you will need to give them time.
I've said it before but it's going to take another 2-3 seasons before we become a formidable force in La Liga and Europe.

That midfield trio you speak of was discussed in this forum 2, even 3 years ago as "getting old and will fade away eventually". I agree they are only getting older, but to rely on your rival fading away because they are getting older is not the strongest mentality to have. We should strive in every way to be better than them and we should have taken better steps in squad management in 2018, 2019 latest. Their old trio is still the best midfield in Europe, which is insane when you think about it.

Griezmann would've added better passing, better technique, better IQ, better finishing, better awareness and more experience. I'd anyday prefer that than playing a pace merchant.

Individually yes.
But pace merchants force opponents to react and not play high line.
You lose that, they can pressure you, win midfield and Griezmann qualities will be useless

I have to say, considering how Zidane adjusted, we were better off if we had Griezmann over Dembele.

For next season, i suggest:
- Bench Lenglet and sell Umtiti. One experienced and quality defender should come (in the position of Lenglet).
- Pique and Busquets cannot be starters, especially in big games. They are too slow to cover large spaces.
- Put DeJong as a DM (defensive midfielder; in the position of Busquets) + Moriba as a box-to-box player (or someone else like wijnaldum or i dunno..).
- Sell Griezmann if there is a good offer, and get a fast attacker who can run and dribble.
- Sell Coutinho of course.. It's no secret.
- We need to buy a proper 9, because we still didn't replace Suarez! I suggest someone like Lukaku, if we cannot get Haaland. Lukaku is useful because he can play well in the box (against the low blocks, like today); he has a strong physicality and can receive crosses; he is also fast enough and powerful to serve in counter-attacks too.
=> If we make these changes, we can be much better next season, for sure.

Dire days when Barcelona fans hope for old Lukaku

Apart from Haaland and Mbappe, there is no available striker in the market that is better than Lukaku, especially for the specific needs of Barcelona.
Lukaku offers so many options to our squad: he is tall and strong, has good pace (33.6 km/h this week), and scores lots of goals. He is useful for different tactics.. He can be the target man that Leo is needing to unlock more space in the Zone14. He can run and score every sort of goals (headers, shots from outside the box; he has striking shots!..).
I think Lukaku would be a serious solution for us, even more interesting than Lautaro; because Lautaro cannot play against the low blocks. And he is also much better than the actual Aguero. He is in top form with Inter this season.

No doubt, as you said, if the opponent doesn't play with a high line, Dembele's output is reduced by 90%. Guy is nothing but pace almost.

I don't care if he sprints 33,6km/h or 13,6. It's about being in the right space at the right time, and doing the right thing. He is a useless football player in the same way Dembele is, but in a slightly different way. Useless if you want a good team, good for a bad team. At least Dembele was bought when young, so the one with a bad eye could hope that he would improve his weaknesses...

Dembele as a 9 can never turn into a successful card, because he doesn't have the IQ to learn a new difficult role, especially against compact defences.
As for Lukaku, he doesn't need lots of intelligence for that. He already has an impressive physicality to win the duels, got powerful shots and lots of experience.. He is a reliable goal-scorer; and I see him very complementary with a creator like Messi (if he stays in the club).
Even in build-up, Stegen can send a direct long ball to a Lukaku's header if the opponent is playing with a high-pressing and blocking short passes.
