Italy was not even close to being favourites for this tournament. Italy-Germany would have been a normal quarterfinal match. You'd rather see Belgium-Germany in quarterfinal? I'm pretty sure Belgium were bigger pre-tournament favourites than Italy. Anyway, Italy-Belgium could have gone either way in that group so we can't really say bracket was overly lopsided. England also finished behind Wales, nobody would have expected that. They were on the wrong side of the draw too.
Italy have just ended up playing really well with a forward line of a Southampton striker and a Sampdoria-owned striker. No Verratti, no Marchisio, a midfield that has Giaccherini, Parolo and de Sciglio.
This lopsidedness has just been created by how teams have played this tournament.
Does not matter. He won the CL and was the Top Scorer and now he is in the SF of the Euro.

He has to win Euros. Being in semis while being absolute trash doesnt give you ballon dor.
Back in 2010 Sneijder was big favorite on betting sites to win it. Second favorite was Iniesta and Xavi actually, and Messi won it easily.
Messi is head and ahoulders better then Ronaldo this year. He aint winning it.
That´s not how this work. All the people will remember the CR who scored 3 against fcking Wolfsburg and won the CL with his penalty, while Messi lost the copa with his pen.

[MENTION=20103]Flavia[/MENTION] you rarely have the final as the "epic match", so Italy-Germany can perfectly be the epic moment just as 1986 - Argentina-England, 1982 - Italy-Brazil, 1994 - Italy-Spain ( IMO ) or Ned-Brazil, 1998 - France-Italy, 2002 - lacked any because it should've been Spain-Italy in the QF and then one of them vs. Germany, we know why, 2006 - Brazil-France etc.

guys, CL and scoring title speaks for him, no matter what if he plays like a shit, was the same thing in Brasil two years ago. And what about last season? Zeru tituli and was second only behind Messi.
Oh yes. The world cup in which he couldnt even survive the group stage and Messi was in the final and still Ronaldo won it.

Oh and regarding two group winners facing off in the quarter-finals - that's almost inevitable. Check out WC2014 quarter finals - Brazil vs Colombia, Argentina vs Belgium, Netherlands vs Costa Rica, France vs Germany - all group winners i.e 100% of quarter-finals were fought between group winners.

No it wasnt. In brazil he was bad, but he won CL (actually played great) and Copa. He also had more goals then Messi and Messi looked like he was in decline with no trophies. He also beat him by few percent.
Like AK said, if he doesnt win this (which he wont), and messi has good 2nd part of the year its not his Im sure
