Diego Simeone

Wenger was indeed the man who kept Arsenal afloat though, you are blaming him for the board mistakes and the club financial capabilities and priorities, just like you are doing with Atletico.
It isn't like Arsenal did better after him.

That kinds of logic reminds me of the Wenger apologists when Arsenal had become (post 2004) a team that cared only for top4 EPL finish (doable back then), and CL money
and at the same time, they were not winning a thing, getting ridiculed in europe, and acting like a farming academy of developing talents that their competitors would poach and integrate into winning teams

There is more to it than the financial aspect. Atleti hierarchy have no balls and guts. They should have sacked him long time ago, thanking him for what he did for their club. But football evolves, and does not care for legacies
Or you can follow the lead on Manchester United who over the last decade has churned through 6 managers and spent 900+ million pounds net, winning 1 FA cup and 1 Euro League. By a considerable margin the most expensive trophies won anywhere on earth. Spending over 1 billion euros to win a FA cup is a remarkable achievement, I'm sure you are very impressed.

Simeone on the other hand actually managed to win the domestic league twice in the same time period, spending a fraction what United did.

Yeah you are right on this. In Wenger's case it was primarily the board for not putting in money and accepting farming academy role

In atleti's case, it is the board again, but they have money to spend and they spend it towards making Simeone the most expensive manager in the world. They don't care to evolve their team. They are content with cL money and no titles

Why everyone uses the mess of UTD (with no Sporting Structure AT ALL) as a counter-example?
Compare with the best not the worst

So Arsenal is a better example then? Only outspent by the two Manchester clubs and Chelsea since Ferguson left and only achieved 4 FA cups. Before this season Arsenal had not played in the Champions League quarter finals since 2010. Remember, in the same time period Atletico de Madrid under Simeone has played in 2 Champions League finals and featured in the Chapions League quarter finals 7 times. Oh, and they won 2 leagues while all Arsenal managed was 2 second places. And i did not even mention the other 6 trophies Atletico won under Simeone.

The parsing of periods is wrong
No one denies Simeone made Atleti raise to a higher level.
But he stopped being top3 coach since 2016, and he is becoming the new Wenger since 2020

Then, Arsenal restarted when Wenger left and Edu was put in charge as an SD. We should judge arsenal from that point onwards
