His fans are delusional.
For a supposedly elite GK he's been awful in Europe for most of his time here.

So has every Barca player more or less in those same games in that time.

Delusional is to compleetly ignore the positive and act befuddled why every coach and Germany rate him.

Also the CL goal conceded to Juventus was not a 'blunder'. Clean made up.

He had a corner he got out at 1-1 to punch, missed the ball, which is a trademark for him, and the ball lucky went over.

Bum level blunder. That's considered his only top CL season btw.

In a CL final he had no top saves to make and conceded at the only good opposition chance, he almost gifted them a goal.

So not for the goal?

Who are the top GKs in CL this season who if make a blunder like that in any high profile game we should focus on?

Conceded in final after a decent save that ball bounced wrong way. Absolutely nothing could do about that.

I wouldn't say that Tek is some legendary level of a GK either, but it's clear just how much more confident he is and at claiming and punching balls in the box.

And the defenders know it too.

Meanwhile ter Stegen always looks like he is anxious, stressed and constipated or some shit. Panicky.

Fugazi leader/captain.

No one at all at any club thinks Tek has been a better GK than MATS in their careers.

Been a good signing and had to come in ahead of Pena though.

Again ignoring how important MATS was and bailed out defence constantly in league win under Xavi.

What pisses me off seeing Tek is realizing how much we lost due to having a bum in goal. Exactly that Tek is not even a top keeper anymore and still is better than Stegen.

Makes me wonder how much we would have done with an elite keeper.

Haha no.. the whole team were bums if that is the criteria.

Can thank him for what helped Xavi win.

There's a reason pretty much all the local media have reported that the club will prioritize an elite shot stopper over an elite distributor with the ball when they eventually sign a new starting GK.

They have seen it with ter Stegen. No point having a player that's great on the ball if he can save fuck all under pressure in KO games.

No they dont...

Irrelevant anyway as obviusly will need a new GK and will look for both.

Same MATS who has been Barcas No1 for 10 years under every coach and starter for Germany.

Same MATS who when is huge in title win.. same folk just clean ignore it as proven wrong about his 'knee' etc.

Whole team failed too often in CL.

There's a long discussion here, but the whole great on the ball talk is useless in big games. No one in CL gets cute on the ball vs elite opponents. Sure, you can't totally suck on the ball, but you don't have to be "great". What the hell is great on the ball for a keeper anyway... completely overstated in importance.

I would want the club to try a bit to see how it's like having Courtois in a big game. That talk about great on the ball would disappear quite fast.

That is totally false.

The top coaches almost to a man value GKs and what they do with ball at feet.

Courtois even argues he is much better on ball than most think.

I am afraid there's not many GKs like Courtois available. Heck Alisson probably made more big saves in one CL match versus PSG in Paris than ter Stegen has done in his entire CL career.

Hopefully though we sign a GK like that whenever we decide to sign a new starter. Probably next year.

Also need to continue hiring more proven top level managers if possible. Most clubs do or at least try to do it while we used to go for either the assistant or some local option or a former Barca player that was unproven or washed.

Alison had his far share of howlers for Liverpool in CL also.

See him losing ball to Vini when Liverpool ahead then concede 4 at home.

Alison and Courtois been the best two though overall.

See Alison for Brazil and disorganised side.

The structure of whole team matters.

The primary problem of Stegen is not that he makes blunders from time to time. It's that he does that without any of the clutch performances some keepers like Alisson, Courtois, Oblak manage to pull off. So you have a keeeper that almost never saves his team in a big way, and is likely to burry it.

It's all down to mentality. Those keepers are lions, Stegen is like a little kitten all alone in the rain on the side of the road.
