Defending this bullshit take makes it even worse. Unbelievable that even such clear and basic logic cases you find "specialists" defending their wrong-way driver opinion.
 
It's not the worst decision ever seen on a football pitch, but it's the worse of the two most obvious options in that moment. Some players will shoot, some players will pass in that situation. In hindsight, it was the wrong choice, but mostly because he executed it poorly.
 
As long as he fails to score and continues to hear all the noise and "agent 008" troll posts regarding his poor performances the situation will go from bad to worse.

Let’s hope he finally manages to score one or two against Rayo so his confidence gets a boost.
 
DonAK brought up that Lamine has gone through growth spurt and needs to adjust to the changes.

Yesterday I noticed he is taller than Nico now.

Could be something to it…could be the lamest excuse?
 
Ah, you guys are still drama queens about Yamal's performance? It was quite good. Some things I didn't like, eg that lazy offside, but that's because he looks mentally not in the season yet, which is quite understandable. Effort in general wasn't the issue.

In the situation Yamal was in...

if he shoots and he scores, it's good
if he shoots and he misses, it's bad
if he passes and Gordon scores, it's good
if he passes and Gordon misses, it's bad

So, conclusion... he just should have scored, because that was a super easy position. Shooting from there is what many players would do, but if you don't score obviously you will get criticism
 
Blows my mind how many people can't use basic logic to calculate who scores more likely. I player in front of the keeper or a player in front of the empty goal.

The fact is if he scored zero people would complain that he didn't pass to Gordon.

Another fact is that if he decided to pass it to Gordon and maybe displaced the pass or Gordon fumbled it, people would also complain.

So, really, the only problem is that he missed. He needs to improve his finishing and bury chances like that one. It wasn't even a great save by Simon that, it literally hit him in the shoulder.
 
In situations like that, you have to pass the ball. Maybe Yamal had a 90% chance of scoring, but Gordon had a 100% chance. Things like that cannot happen in important games, and I hope it has been communicated to him. In the previous game, there was a similar situation where Gordon could have tried to take the risk himself, but he passed it to Fermin for a guaranteed goal.

That’s what separated Messi from everyone else. He didn’t force himself to score when there was a better option for a teammate, and in the end, that selflessness paid him back a hundred times over.

You speak of logic, but then forget to bring the additional action of Lamine having to make the pass before Gordon shoots into the equation.

Its not about self esteem but doing your job as a player which is to provide the team victory.

However, people are making too much of it. If he saw him, he probably regrets not passing and he will do it next time.

The most concerning thing is that he looks out of shape, and it might take some games for him to regain his condition.
 
It's also very easy to say from TV. We can disect every decision, but on the field the game is insanely fast. Night and day if you watch it live in the stadium.

Of course he saw him. But as you said, players have to understand that it doesn’t matter who scores the goal.
 
He got better as the match went on and had some briliant passes. He just seems like he can't sprint at all. About the not passing situation. This is still early in the season and a Liga game. But in a CL knowckout shit like that can get us eliminated.
