It's been a long long time since I was last this hyped to see a new signing in action for Barça. Probably not since 17/18 with Cout and Dumbélé. Perhaps FdJ was up there as well.
 
I was only hyped for Dembele and those quickly evaporated, seeing how unprofessional Dembouz is and the club itself with lack in focus on physical preparation.
 
Probably clouded memories, I don't think anyone was really hyped for Demb or Coutinho. We had just lost Neymar who was supposed to take over from Messi and was certainly the 2nd best player in the world during his Barca time. 19 (?) year old Demb filling that hole was just wishful thinking at most.

Coutinho had the same problems as Fabregas, if not worse. Some curling wonder strikes here and there but no real midfield play and a horrible fit alongside Messi in a team with no real #10.

I don't think so. I'm probably just horrible at judging players, but the hype was definitely real back then. Dumbélé was widely regarded as one of the greatest young attacking talents out there and Cout had been stellar at Pool for a couple of seasons. His first few months (or perhaps even half a season) was amazing for us as well. We obviously overpaid vastly for both of them (even if we ignore hindsight), but I clearly remember being super excited to see them play.
 
The hype for Dembele was huge and real, he was a big talent and potential until we got to know him better. Coutinhi and Griezmann weren't, most of us was expecting they will flop because it was obvious that they don't fit their roles in the team and positions.

I think Rodri on paper is the biggest name we brought since Suarez and Ney.
 
Right from day one Coutinho raised questions. Which was a January transfer as I remember.

There was no fixed position for Cou in which he could play at Barca. At Liverpool he was used to AM shooting fireballs.
 
Demb was a 1 season Bundesliga winger who had scored 6 goals. I don't recall that he was that hyped, more like wishful thinking + the big transfer fee. But I won't fight over it, it's been 10 years, my memory might also play tricks on me. Stats-wise, he was worse than Diomande right now. The only sick thing about him was his pace and that he had no weak foot on Youtube reels.

Yeah, it was only a very subjective observation by me as well. I suppose we all were looking for something to be hyped about after Ney-snake screwed us over.
 
Neymar fucked Barca big time and that made Barto go into frenzy mode to appear popular with big spendings every summer. Most of it nothing to do with the sporting side. Coutinho and Griezmann resulted in this - players with no real place in Barca system.
