Gordon, a good signing?

It’s difficult for me to judge. I had seen him play far too little, but I was still surprised when he was signed for €80 million. He was disappointing at the WC. I still haven’t figured out what Flick saw in him that was so special. We’ll see.
What lol He was one of England's best players

I said when he was signed that Gordon will score few but important goals. I stand by that despite him going through a rough patch at the moment.

Usual reactionary stuff from the Forum.

Anyways, his CF stint sucked.
I disagree, at least he is more involved in a central position, even if he is not good at it. On the wing he spends most of the game isolated and doing runs nobody notices, that's the thing that is killing his confidence more than anything else.

Another magnificent performance.

I was salivating how he was so neat and tidy on the ball. Raph and Lamine will get all the praise but it was Gordon's pressing that enabled them two to show their brilliance. Make no mistake, it is Gordon carrying Lamine and Raph, not the other way around.

Gordon makes the team better, just by being there.

And did you see how much he ran 😱. And it was really hot apparently as well. Almost 25 degrees, centigrade no less, don't be hating by saying it was fahrenheit. :spank:

I don't even blame him for missing the ball completely twice in the 78th minute when he should have scored. I blame Pedri, Rodri and Fermin for not passing to him much before that, so you can't blame Gordon for not expecting the ball to come to him.

If he carries on like this, the only worry I have is if PSG will consider paying his buyout like they did Neymar.

:nasser:

Controversial and un-popular opinion now; but he will go for toe to toe still and end up on top on that left flank in the end.

I believe he'll come great when the Champions League games will come. Last season, he downed tools in the league but went all out in the CL. This is what he said in January:
“I do love the Champions League. I think it brings out extra in players. I’d be lying if I said it didn’t bring out extra motivation or adrenaline in me.”
He's probably upset he didn't get to start the Feyenoord game, but he'll come good. However, going forward I don't expect him to be as motivated against the lower teams as he was in the first few games. He has the arrogance of a big game player.

Sevilla away is a big game, he was very disappointing in that game, but overall a decent start to the season. When he gets his first goal or two he will probably be more relaxed in front of goal and take his chances.

It's not controversial nor unpopular.

Every sensible person knows Gordon will start a lot of games. He has different uses to Adeyemi and Flick knew who he was bringing.

Narratives on player performances are always amusing - you can always spot those who simply look at stats or sofascores to label a player a failure or having disappointed

Even his offside wasn't even his fault but that won't show up in the stats IF you watched the match - Cancelo simply spotted his run too late and actually deliver the pass when he was already returning onside from his initial sprint. It's commonplace in most commentaries, he doesn't show up in the stats in any measureable way so he was poor or disappointed

I think he was good against Sevilla but squandered the few good chances he had to even hit the target - that would be my own disappointment or point of criticism as I think this also has to do with that palpable tension you sense on him desperate for that 1st goal. But I think he'll need that to get him on track at this point so hopefully his teammates will tee him up an easy one soon, maybe even a pk

What I noticed in that 2nd half is that Hansi had him drop deeper to help Cancelo deal with Sevilla's intense press and it worked but the reality is that most of the action ultimately was going through Lamine who clearly had his tail feathers up and ready to attack. His dribbling, passing, sprints, pressing and objectives are all very high despite a cold streak with G/A atm but having an in form Adeyemi. Let's face it, these are problems we couldn't resolve last season when someone went cold during season

I have no doubts about Gordon, I continue to believe he will be remembered as a club legend before its all said & done

Menace on counters. That was just world class. The turn, the speed and the finish. Out of nowhere vs a dominant team

Yeah, but we barely have to counter since all teams sit back. Maybe in CL. Elche was the only one naive enough to have a go at us and paid for it.
