20 - Dani Olmo

Great World Cup but back home Fermin is a starter. A bit ironic.

I do rate Olmo and liked him from the start but Fermin is on fire. And has special chemistry with Lamine.
They're both great but Fermin has the edge right now - but this is great for us and I don't think Olmo takes it ill that at the moment Fermin is on fire. There will be rotations and subs etc, plenty of time for almost everybody (except Gavi and Balde)... Fermin can play false 9, Olmo can play CM of course etc - and sooner or later we have to give Pedri a rest than Olmo can slot in and maybe start with Bernal. We're in a very good position actually, so many versatile players on form.

He is such a 'rogue'-type player, working in the shadows but extremely skilled and intelligent, able to split a defense in a second, capable of scoring from outside the box and also is a decent, press-resistant distributor.

Fermin is like a Sonic on steroids, post a Messi-blood-transfusion*

Sky Sports says Bayern is interested in him in the winter and willing to pay big bucks for his services, would love that to be true but it looks to me like BS.

Probably bs, Bayern has a lot of attacking midfielders. No idea why would they need Olmo

And they know they aren't getting him for cheap. We have no reason to sell if not for a very good price. Weird rumour

80-100m and I am game. Tis the only position we are surplus as fuck at, but also could have an upgrade.

That being said, he's not leaving. And we aint selling.

80m is a joke. I'd keep him for that sum rather than strenghtening a rival for CL.

Either we sell for a huge fee or not at all. Our midfield and squad is nearly complete and we may not even need to touch the squad with the exception of 1-2 signings in defense.

We buy Gordon for 80 and sell Olmo for 60. I already see it. Deco cookin' 🤣

Nah let's give Gordon a chance to adapt and find his groove. A few goals against top opposition and bam! 💥

But pressure is on and he wouldn't be the first player to fail here.

More I think about Rodri's interview, I think how much it aligns with my own impressions of the current Barça - that it is the beginning of a historic footballing era with Flick's Barça matched with generational talents from La Masia. Why wouldn't you want as an elite footballer to be written into that part of history with the era that is loading

Unless the player is unhappy (which I am skeptical of), why would he even consider leaving after what it took to return and knowing what the landscape looks like from afar. Then mix in this current era Rodri acknowledged tipped the scales for him, he will want this to work seamlessly with Spain's Intl dominance in football as well

From there it's more a question of sporting strategy if they seek to move player but there are zero indications he wants to go anywhere so a priori his exit rumors are fiction/clickbait - at worst, negotiating ploy for wage bump

i wouldn't say that Olmo has failed at Barcelona, per se. But some players may get discouraged by getting replaced by Fermin as first choice and warming the bench in all too many games.

So I wouldn't put an exit out of the realm of possibility but that wouldn't be indicative of being a bad player or failing here, but rather just wanting more minutes and being rewarded with a salary bump.

I can see it potentially happening even though I like having him here.

I belive Olmo more then Fermin.

Fermin needs 10 chances to score,Olmo is overall better player for 90% of our games.

Huh? Almo barely scores at all. Not to say he's bad overall, but scoring definitely one thing Fermin has over him.

Wouldn't be so harsh. He isn't super clinical as Raph, but still scores a lot. Olmo on the other hand scores once in the blue moon. Not his forte at all.

Nah, imo Olmo and Fermin are rotated very evenly and have their strengths and weakness - but I wouldn't sell any one of them for under 100m and only if you they would like to leave themselves of course. Only players I would part with are Balde, Kounde, Martin and Christensen...

Agreed, but I could see a situation in which Olmo asks to leave next summer if his minutes continue to be limited by Fermin.

I'd add Gavi and FDJ to your list too.

Yup, forgot about Gavi - but Frenkie, when fit, is actually alright.

Read twice in a week now in Croatian media that Olmo is for sale. Don't know who is pushing those stories but don't believe them tbh.
He has hit the longest phase in recent years of staying fit too. No reason to let him go. Yet.

Every single one of our current mids, except Gavi and Bernal (at least not in current shape - but still good for relief) add something different to the squad and is great to have not just debt of being able to swap, but able to change the style of play. No way he should be let go unless humongous fee and he really is okay with it. Knowing Bavarian jews, they would make a cheeky bid of 50 dolla and give Goretzka as bonus. It's obvious Olmo is becoming more and more comfortable, especially with Rodri also there. Lot's of checks and balances now with so many different profiles, especially if Frenkie gets fit and good.

We could get on level of Peps Barca at controlling games with all these different profiles, while also maintaining crazy attacking spirit of Flickball. Deep and diverse midfield is essential for that. Although Pep era Barca had all time greats that none of the current ones can beat in terms of individual quality, the whole composition is probably best Barca ever had in entire history. Olmo fits perfectly and has a unique role of being typical technical spanish AM in mold of Silva. Great in tight spaces, build up and linkup. Can score occasional golazo too. Can even play deeper, if needed. Fermin is completely different beast. They complement each other all too well and given constant injury problems of post-covid era, all the better they both stay.
