I also believe, like even Lucho himself as a player, only few players can elevate their game for the occasion - that demands you stepping up. Ivan was one of those players, even if he wasn't as polished as Iniesta, Xavi or Busquets - the most box to box midfielder of modern Barça for me. Too many modern egos talk the talk few walk the walk, Rakitic definitely doesn't get respected enough for what he contributed to Barça
We see players like Fermin & Dro, soon Tunkara with similar profiles that are not often arriving into the 1st team dynamic from La Masia. Most are polished positionally & technically elite - few are brutal dangers like Ivan could be throughout his career. Fermin maybe has a different career trajectory had his loan not switch something because his ceiling looks pretty impressive. Yet, I wonder if Tunkara gets some chances in pre-season because he is something unique at Barça IMHO
I think in terms of foreign midfielders, Ivan is a legend and a rare profile you just don't see at Barça either, normally. Yaya could've been that but never quite reached it - I think he owes his City prominence to being forced to reposition as an AM like Ivan since a scrawny Busquets would own his position for a generation
