Frenkie de Jong speaking ahead of Lewandowski’s final game for Barcelona tonight:
“You could feel it around the team all week honestly. Everyone has been a bit emotional about it, even if we tried not to show it too much. When a player like Lewandowski leaves, it affects the whole dressing room because you become used to having him with you every day.
For many of us, especially the younger players, he was more than just a teammate. He helped people a lot behind the scenes, always giving advice, always pushing standards in training and during games. Before Szczesny joined, he was one of the oldest and most experienced players here, so naturally many players looked up to him.
People see the goals and trophies, which were obviously incredible, but what he brought to the dressing room was also very important. His mentality, professionalism and the way he carried everyone along made a huge difference for us as a team.
What he has done for Barcelona will always be remembered. He helped this club win important titles, scored in big moments and became a leader for many players here. In my opinion, he has definitely cemented himself as a club legend.
Tonight will be emotional for all of us because players like Lewandowski are difficult to replace, not only because of his quality on the pitch, but also because of the person he is.”
