There's something there but there's also at least 7 midfielders ahead of him atm

Gavi, Pedri, Olmo, Fermin, FDJ, Rodri & Bernal to say nothing of either Xavi or Tunkara

Ofc, Fariñas is more of an interior so there he might see minutes but paltry at best - so would he be better off on loan? Probably, but €1.5M & 50% of future rights is just kicking the can further down the road for someone else to develop him. So if Flick is convinced of his potential, training as part of the squad might be a better investment longterm than a paltry sum to Girona

No way he should be kept around in the first team but if that Girona offer is all we could get for him then won't miss out on much anyway.

Squad player if/when Casado goes, until the winter market.

If we have an injury crisis as per, well every fookin' year, then we may need more ready players like him.

We have Tunkara, Diarra and Goren for that.
We would have to be VERY unlucky with injuries because we have Pedri, Gavi, Bernal, Olmo, Rodri, Espart and Garcia who'll play before Farinas or any of our other youngsters get even a minute.

He got #4. It's probably just for extra depth for injuries because he can play both midfield and fullback, probably won't get a lot of minutes but I'm not sure if he wouldn't be more useful than Gavi if given a chance. At least he has some height and speed compared to him, both nothing special with the ball.

It always annoys me when nobodies/fringe players get classic numbers like that. Hopefully he'll make me eat my words, but I can't see him getting many minutes.

Gotta trust Flick but I haven’t yet seen what he has when it comes to Brian…even if he has shown glimpses at times

#4 though, question of availability but that’s a historic number at Barça

He's here because Tommy could fetch a higher transfer fee most likely.

I was going to say, decent player to do the Casado role on a low wage (well I just did), but then I remembered we are paying Casado at Depor by reports.

Still, can't wait till this guy gets some LaLiga minutes and he gets to frame his Farinas - 4 jersey on his wall. Stuff all these LaMasia kids dream of.

What's the point of promoting him? Just to increase his release clause?
Now he's heavily dependent on getting minutes for first team without being able to play for Atletic.

He's surpassed Atletic and was going to be sold/loaned to Girona.

Flick liked him and halted the deal. He would play much, but in turns of pivot, he's a bit more like Pedri as he can ball carry.

Atletic doesn't need him as they are in a low league and have the new batch of pivots to develop. They can still promote as what cost them competing last year was an injury crisis. This year the squad looks stronger.

I guess he stays until Frenkie is ready.

Might put him up in a shopping window getting a few minutes here and there, hope he plays well enough so we can get more than that Girona offer in January. Or more likely Flick will forget that he exists and we won't even get that much.

I am quite confident in the end that this is a strategic FFP move for a player with potential. Fills an open 1st team salary slot and if he is sold/loaned later it benefits club as it is all FFP profit for a cantera player
