6 - Gavi

It surprised me how well he looked as soon as he returned. He looked as good as he ever did but now the biggest step awaits him, one that he never really took. He needs to take a big step to the elite level, he's not there (yet?).

Gavi needs to just get the ball passed on faster. He always takes too many touches that is the biggest thing with him. I love his industry and I think that is a huge value. Just awkward to get him out there when we have Pedri/FDJ/Olmo/Fermin to somehow place on the field

I hope I'll eat my words about him. Don't want him to fail and he was indeed very good against RM, which at this point in time isn't really a team anymore...

Liked him too against Real.

But he's always been at his best in those open games that offer much action for eager duelists.

It is in more organized, conservative situations that he has looked inept.

I think if it's a parked bus situation you just don't play Gavi simple as that.

Frenkie excels in that type of game.

Gavi is looking very good. His out of possession play is absolutely the best of the midfielders. But if they don't come to play he isn't the one to make something magical happen. Except that one time he turned into prime Messi for 1 goal

His out of possession play is not as strong as made out.

Chases down anything that moves that can have pluses and minuses. Need to know when to go an when not to.

Lot of tackles and a lot of fouls/game left open if loses the duel/dribbled past.

The game v Real is prime example.

He made 3 tackles and was dribbled past 3 times while losing 6 of 9 duels. Also more than once Real carried the ball 40 yds through middle of park with no Barca midfielder to be seen.

Cant fault his effort and does look more mobile but he is leaving a lot of space in midfield for teams when over commits.

But he is also learning how to play there as Xavi saw same and largely played him higher up to have his pressing with less risk when beaten. Which in turn meant he regressed as a midfielder really.

Mentioned it multiple times but I thought Camavinga was probably best all round midfielder on Sunday and dont rate him.

😂

I can already hear the excuses, he was never this good

Flick did it, etc 😂 😂.

All those excellent performances he made under koeman and xavi was an illusion, including against our biggest rival.

Include being the biggest Midfielder on the pitch against Madrid under xavi lol. Without de jong and if memory serves Pedri.

Bang average at best last night.

Again looked lost when asked to take ball in tighter areas higher up the park.

Passing is beyond safe too often.

Doesnt have the technique or vision to play higher up like that. He is miles behind Pedri and Frenkie there let alone Fermin or Olmo.

Works hard as a given.

Needs to be a lot more than cardioboy though.

You can already tell that Gavi is about to play every damn game next season. Flick loves him for sure. Actually every coach loves him.

Pedri/Gavi/Fermin
Pedri/Gavi/Bernal

Those are the 2 combos for the future

We will see next season how it goes.

Gavi has come back fresher than anyone else and playing at full throttle for his place and also world cup spot.

While for most part other players have bit less in legs at this time of season and tapering off for World Cup.

Flick had Gavi last season and made many of the same noises and ultimately when not good enough he wasnt a starter or relied upon in the bigger games.

He does look leaner and more mobile now.

Its up to Gavi to show enough on ball to be a starter.

Yeah i'm just going off how Flick is using him every damn game no questions asked. I thought he would be played slowly at first. Also, i'd rather we learn how to rotate smartly so we don't have an injury list in April like we somehow do every year when the going gets tough

Some people don't understand that most important thing in life is energy. It's the only real currency.

Gavi brings a ton of it to Barca. No wonder Flick loves him.

Gavi is definitely a starter if we play 4-3-3.
The trio of Pedri-FDJ-Gavi might be the best midfield trio in the world. I see it as superior to PSG's. But that would mean our ST has to be elite in front of the goal. Ferran will definitely drop his goal scoring in half if we play a 4-3-3.

In a midfield duo, Gavi will always be a backup, he doesnt have the arsenal to bench any of Pedri or FDJ.

Lets see what we cook next season. I am excited.

He will need to add a lot more on the ball.

Yesterday again he was limited on ball and lost a lot of duels as over commits.

Moving better and does look to be learning a bit deeper but still lacks on ball both moving it forward passing wise and carrying ball.
