7 - Fermín López

So, what's the expectations for the Ferminator this coming season?

His minutes on the left will probably go down the drain with Gordon here (and perhaps even Bisiwu as well, even though his impact should be negligible), and centrally he'll have to battle Olmo who's on a wild streak of not getting injured, a fit (well, hopefully at least) Gavi and perhaps even a tiny bit of Tunkara as well. Could he get more minutes as a 9'ish if we don't manage to sign Alvarez or another striker?

His stats these past years are seriously impressive, and the question is if he'll be content playing second fiddle this season, which he will except for serious injuries? I've never been completely sold on his overall game in terms of being a bonafide starter, but his hustle, heart and eye for end product is undeniable, making him quite the luxury backup. I doubt he'll stay put past this season, if this doesn't change, though, and getting 50-60m (possibly more or less depending on how well he does) for a La Masia grad should be rather tasty for the board.

Anyhow, really looking forward to see both how he himself as a player and his role in the team evolves this season.
 
I assumed Olmo would be more out than in by this point but I didn't predict his end of season run or WC form, he's the bonafide 1st choice with Fermin rotating. But I suspect Flick will play with formations a lot to get as many attackers on pitch as possible - especially since Rodri will give the tactical option to play with the lone pivot

But Fermin should have a great season, looks motivated

I mean, I would have scoffed at anyone predicting RM winning the league title regardless of their activities but especially for not landing Rodri. However, landing the player is really as big as landing Alvarez IMHO. Add a great LCB & RB and football will be dominated by Barça for awhile

I don't have the numbers, but I would imagine Fermin and Olmo didn't play many games together centrally, which will probably be more or less the only option this season. So yeah, we'll be more flexible with a potential Rodri, but I'm not sure it'll really benefit Fermin much. Then again, this is all just hypothetical, as Olmo will probably break down sooner or later, sadly.

Goals like jamrock says, I think we will see an evolution in tactics by Flick who will have tools he has sought since his arrival in the first actual mercato. That's why I don't believe the LCB story is over either - that too is a key tactical asset he covets to really cook
 
If the idea is to have AM that can provide more balance then it is Olmo by a mile.

Fermin is closer to a 2nd striker.

In time Yamal is going more central without a doubt and with that wont need the 2nd striker role as much.

Part of the reason Barca lose goals on break is the AM and Raphinha being second strikers at time and when ball breaks down midfield left trying to put pressure on before opposition can get head up to split the high line.

Risk reward innit.
 
Whatever Olmo did in the World Cup remains in the WC

He now needs to translate the same to club football. Unless he does Fermin is still ahead of him. That's the way it works really

Olmo is a better footballer but not sure if more consistent. So we will have to wait and see. WC/Euro and club football are different
 
He was so close to having slick pulled back hair but seems like another season another broccoli hair for him. Massive aura loss, shame.

He had that young, cool, carefree mobster look over him before this new turd haircut. Reminded me a bit of Michael in his first season of Peaky Blinders.

Not a stellar performance in terms of being clinical but did plenty well. I am not worried about him at all - what incredible depth we have
