7 - Ferran Torres

My view is that if we aren't renewing him then he needs to go on the market immediately. If he would play his last year of contract here as a backup and then leave for free it would be a huge disappointment.

He is a quite serious asset, in terms of market value, his cost should be at least 50m, and if he wasn't in his last year of contract, 70-80m. So we'd get the worst of both worlds, have a great player sitting on the bench who will also leave for free, getting no money for him, and paying his contract when we don't really need him.

I think renewing him regardless of the situation with the new striker is the best option. The first thing is that even if Alvarez or Pedro are signed, he can play across the front 3 and those signings are not guarantees. I would think that he would still find a fairly important role in the rotation and maybe even outperform them if he has a really good season.

Then even if it doesn't fully work out, and we don't need him as Alvarez/Pedro/whoever are very successful, he will probably ask to leave himself and we will be able to make good money from his sale.

Again, your entire post presume one thing: Ferran will ever accept a sale. That will be great, how likely it is?

I don't think it is the case, and for that I feel it is a mute point. You can't sell a player who refuses to do so. If Ferran renews,it likely means he will also stay until the end of his contract.

We went to the same with Frenkie, there was no negotiation last May, partially due to broken relationship with his agent, and we were comfortable going in the summer while it is the last year of contract.

Ferran wants to stay, that is good and bad thing. Good because we have no urgency to renew, bad because we are unlikely to sell him.

The club wants to assess how we do in summer, and then negotiate. I think that is fair.

Ferran is great for his role indeed, but also could be luxurious piece when you are struggling to reinforce other areas. If you get Alvarez, you probably prefer to sell (if possible) or open the cap space of Ferran for a new Winger or fullback rather than expensive backup CF. And then you get someone like Muriqi or Espi or promote Hamza if he develops well.

According to Capology (awful and unreliable source) he earns 10M + 3M bonus. And he will surely ask for a pay raise. At 15M+ or so, is it worth it for backup player in this position?

It makes no sense for him to agree to a sale.

Barca wont sign two strikers and after his last two seasons would most likely be that he fancies one more year to prove himself as as first choice or as past couple seasons role.

Worst case scenario for him would be free in a year with very good options after another year at Barca.

I don't think he will but it's possible. We again let ourselves get into this situation that it looks that he'll enter his final year without a contract even though I think Laporta or Deco stated they won't allow that to happen again.

He can have a great start of the season and get rich offers from elsewhere and refuses to sign, he can sit on the bench too much and he refuses to sign... It probably won't happen and he'll stay for a long time but there are many scenarios where it could happen.

Was our best player against Atleti and scored, scored multiple times against Real Madrid including the match winning cup final last season. Scored in semi final CL against Inter last season. Has better npg ratio than Mbappe in La Liga this season even though he struggled with form after the winter break.

He gets alot of hate, yes he tends to miss chances sometimes but he is a good 9. Would love to keep him as a back up if we get a good striker and get rid of Lewy.

Thirteen games without scoring a goal for Barca's first striker in the main part of the season is unacceptable, and it has been repeated throughout the seasons.

He has never really been the 'main striker' in minutes.

Can pick points to make just about any striker look bad.. Barca want Alvarez who has 1 league goal from open play since October.

Has it been released? I don't see it

I doubt they can leave him out. Other than Oyarzabal they don't really have other strikers. Samu if I remember well is injured

Yeah, I deleted my comment. Someone on twitter released a list but was fake as I didn't see anything in Spanish press.

It really is and you're right, it's not his first slump in form. We maybe don't need Osimhen or Joao - but we need at least a decent 9 to rotate with Torres, preferably some one taler we can whip in some crosses on if everything else fails... I still think Fisnik Aslani would be good enough for us and to rotate with Ferran.

As said on the old forum had been told that Barca and Ateltico had been discussing a deal with Ferran going to Atleti and Alavrez to Barca.

Since then Alvarez stock has risen due to CL and was being said a price of around 80m was the one.

If Ferran was open to it then Atleti could be as well selling Alavrez and Sorloth and getting in Ferran and someone like Osihmen.

One thing that suits Atleti is a lunatic physical CF.

The issue is why would Ferran move? When could make that same move in a year in worst case scenario most likely and get better paid for it.

He is weird player, but good enough to be sub for us and score 20+ goals.

Good thing is he stays and Lewa is gone.

It will be not good thing if he is our first striker.

While flick is here who over produces for attackers he's a keeper, adds value to the squad.

Once flick leaves, that's a different story but we will cross than bridge when we get there

Extend for 3 years on same money. If he is as loyal to the club as he seems, he will of course accept.
Club should play hardball. No pay rise for whatever reason.

Once Flick leaves, his status will be reavaluated and maybe he gets sold

I hope we dont extend him straight way. Wait till the mercato is close to finishing.

The ideal would be selling him while his stock is high, use the money to go for Osimhen and a potential like Panichelli or Aslani, or a LW.
If he agrees to move that is.

I like Ferran as a player and personality, especially the maturation his game since Valencia days and beyond his Pep tutelage in England. Him being BFF with Pedri is kismit in every sense yet he’s not 1st chair - he’s not the #9 you build around. Elite clinical finishing is innate and while he is in early phase of his career peak covering several variables, it never becomes WC like the #9s who have played at this club. That’s my humble observation in football with goalscoring instincts, it is there from the beginning - you can see the profiles who it is seemingly effortless. Lewandowski gave all he could give and Ferran supplied great secondary support but a WC 9 is expected at Barça - maybe we have to wait longer if Alvarez isn’t attainable but it certainly isn’t Pedro either. Let’s see what Laporta & Deco can cook

I think he wants to be here so would come at the expense of being 2nd fiddle to a more prominent profile, I think Flick likes him very much as well so my hunch is he continues with a renewal that makes him a luxury goalscoring option. Not ideal IMHO but not terrible either, at least he will be honor the badge rather than just being content to get the bag. I also don’t believe his ego precludes him sharing the dressing room with a mercenary striker, Alvarez or anyone else - genuinely is about the team. Team chemistry as we can see is critical

He really needs to remove those dark patches/slumps he goes through where he forgets how to execute the basics of the game.

Let us not forget he spent several months being utterly useless, and in his case it's not hyperbole.

Subtract the goals, if he could just play the way he played in this final stretch of the season, by all means, keep him. But until he shows consistent reliability, let's not invite disappointment by placing unwavering faith in him. It's Ferran, after all.

He'll hit Tuna mode again and you'll wish we had sold him.
