Seems like the criteria for this award changes every year. It should be Lamine based on how important trophies have been for ballon d’or recently but people really don’t want him to get it. Funny

Thing is he wasn't even in top three performers for Spain. Didn't get in team of the tournament and rightly so.
Just getting it now would be a farce.

For me is still Kane.

Doesn’t change what I said. Winning was prioritized heavily before and people are changing their criteria.

Modric(probably the most controversial?) , Rodri and Dembele were all more influential in their team's fortunes than what Yamal was for Spain winning the WC.
 
I don’t consider Kane a top 5 footballer and did not see Dembele as top 3 last year either. I’ll have to get used to players I don’t respect winning the ballon d’or now that Messi’s retired. I’m realizing he was the reason I paid any attention to it

He started every game despite being out of form from injury. Seems like his coach thought him playing was very influential

I'm on board with your reasoning. By this token Mbappe would be a better shout than Kane, but he doesn't have the trophies at club level.

If you want to give him a Ballon for that then life is on easy mode for the kid. Legends of the game have not won it even though they had far better showings in WCs, yet we're giving freebies to Jamal.

He won la liga player of the season and World Cup (which he played despite an injury). Ain’t no charity here

They’re both bad shouts. Both examples of players who are good at statpadding. But yes, Mbappe is at least a top 3 player. I would take Haaland, Mbappe, Lamine, Dembele, and even Vinicius over Kane. Nothing more I hate more than a striker who hates being in the box in an important game

It is a charity when you're making up excuses that were not validated by anyone.
There's always something with him, either the age argument, not being fit, hooking up with that midget etc.
Let's just agree he had an underwhelming tournament for a possible Ballon D'or winner and leave it at that.
Mbappe, Messi, Haaland, Kane were all better attacking players than him in this WC.
There is no passenger D'or award, sorry.

I already listed players I would take over him. To me his importance comes from the rarity of good strikers but seeing him pull his cdm gimmick when Martinez and Romero were on yellow cards really disgusted me

I saw it now. I wouldn't take Vinicius over him myself, nor Dembele.

Not sure why he dropped deeper in that Argentina game.
 
Yamal should get it but Kane is one player I wouldn't be mad seeing him win.

Class footballer with such diverse locker of abilities and always a professional.

The English would go crazy and probably have him over R9 if that happens but that's just the way it goes. We have to ignore them.
