Guimaraes announces he is leaving Newcastle for a rumoured price of around 75m.

Sell Ping Pong and buy Guimaraes should be the play ................

Of a competent Sporting Department. 🤌 :bartomeu:

Where are the defenders though? I'm starting to doubt we will get anyone in defence other than Cancelo. It's alarming how it was such a clear position we needed to strengthen a couple of months ago but now all of a sudden, in true Barca way, it's all about attackers and hoping defence will make due another season.

LB: Cancelo/Balde/Martin
CB: Cubarsi/Martin/Eric/Araujo/Christensen
RB: Kounde/Eric/Cancelo

Plenty of width but I would've liked some edge too. Most of these are more or less the same level with different styles. A top CB next to Cubarsi or a FB who can be consistent over a season would do wonders. I don't trust Eric to become that player even if he is an important squad member.

Don't like the Adeyemi deal, consider him a limited speedster.

But love the way Deco is doing business, getting unexpected players fast, it's giving me hope he will also get defenders that there are no reports currently.

1 year on his contract, managed by Jorge Mendes.

I'm not sure if this deal is a case of Deco sneaking Vodka in his water bottle, or Laporta sneaking water in Deco's Vodka bottle.

This is exactly what is needed offensively. We don't want to overplay Raphinha and Lamine up to the point where their hamstring goes. I really like the age of both Gordon and Adeyemi. 24-25. Not old, not kids, prime age. Fast, intense, hard working. I like it.

I remember a report from a few months ago saying that Flick wanted to strengthen the squad with players who were more experienced, but still relatively young, basically somewhere in that age range.

I don’t think this would be a bad deal. He’s a good player and is entering the final year of his contract so he shouldn’t be too expensive.

That said, what really bothers me is why we don’t seem to be considering signing a defender at all?????

Also, if we do sign Adeyemi, it probably means either Raphinha or Torres will be sold. We could get a lot of money for Raphinha, while Torres is also entering the final year of his contract and could potentially be included in an Alvarez deal.

Raphinha is not going out. Atleast Adeyemi transfer isn't an indication.

We have the money to go for two backups for the wings. Rashy & Roony are out of the club, hence the two new transfers.

If Raphinha leaves, I reckon we will use his money to sign a top LW like of Barcola or something. But thats not the case.

We have 5 CBs.

I would agree on that one.

This came out of nowhere.

Good:
- he's young, fast and versatile, can cover all positions upfront
- relatively cheap (reported price between 30-40m) on this market

Bad:
- inconsistency
- injury history
- legal and disciplinary problems

I see him as Rashford replacement. Maybe Flick can unlock something in him.

Decent backup/rotation for Yamal - don't think this means anything for Raphinha or Ferran.

I know. However, how many of those 5 are world class defenders?
1 but still, we have 4 of them who 99% stay, and Araujo on a huge salary who doesn’t want to leave. I would gladly bring in a top CB, but I think that if Araujo doesn’t leave, there won’t be anything.

Not exactly a transfer that gets me all hot and bothered, but we do need a somewhat competent backup for Lamine.

...but of course the real reason why we're shopping in Dortmund is that we're pocketing Schlotterbeck while at their offices...

Right?
