Bernardo Silva

There is talk about him coming for a low wage. What is there to talk about in this case. Also he is 32, not 35.

We neee a bigger squad if we want to fight for all titles deep into the season. Injuries will happen. Silva would instantly be 1st option for Pedri replacement if some injury happens to him.
 
I have a feeling we will see a lot of 4-3-3 this season.

If Gavi is back at his best, which I think he will be after the World Cup. It has to be a 433 system for him to truly shine.
And if its a 433, Silva would be an apt backup.
 
There is still the question of the lone pivot with 433, we don't have a solution for that. Maybe older FDJ could be better at it then the young one but I think we'll still mostly play 4-2-3-1. I think someone (Olmo) is leaving if Bernardo is coming or the club is just paranoid about injuries and wants to stack midfielders which isn't the worst idea. We had enough midfielders on paper last season too but in reality there were a lot of matches when Eric and Olmo covered the double pivot. Bernardo is much better for that. If we could sell Olmo (or include him in the Alvarez deal) and bring Bernardo we would have a better team, I value Bernardo much more then Olmo.

The biggest issue is that he'll get a huge salary and probably too long of a contract. He's not that old, only 31 but playing under Pep for a decade takes its toll.

I'm sure Atleti will appreciate us hijacking the deal and let us have Alvarez for cheap as well.
 
Strange one. Only 32, but he is an old 32.

Can see him doing okay centrally in the middle of the park, but we are overloaded there and I'd rather give those minutes to blood Bernie Bernal.

If they are ever thinking of giving him minutes on the Right Wing, that would be genuinely atrocious as he has been far too slow and weak to play there for at least the last 2 years.

Too old, past his prime and in a well covered position atm.

I'm afraid he's going to be the new Gundogan.
 
Wont be anything like Gundogan.

Gundogan legs went as season progressed as had to play too much as a starter.

Silva should be on a lot less and used for rotation.

More aggressive than Bernardo for sure.
Plus he is a final third specialist, which Bernardo isn't.
Look at where he played under Pep (which is much slower and less direct than Flickball) the last years to get the picture...
 
I don't see how you don't move on a player like Bernardo for squad depth if he comes as free agent and is also willing to lower his wage to make it work. You have to take it. If only to rest Pedri properly.

He's not a priority since our midfield is stacked. I think Flick asked for other players first and he'll join, if we don't get them. Another reason could be not to weigh down our Masa Salarial before the new financial year starts on July first to not risk getting back to 1:1, since Gordon used up this season's margin I assume.
Whatever the reason, it's the right approach. We have other priorities.
