Caso Negreira

There would need to be a reason he could blackmail Barca.. which would be admission of guilt if willing to pay millions to keep him quiet.

But logically it makes no sense as power to expose club remains after he leaves office but they stopped paying him.

Also we know he tried to get them to keep paying up with threats and they ignored it.

There is no way the club paid millions out to an 'invented' threat and it wouldnt go away when he leaves office as said./

Makes zero sense.

No, as I said. Blackmailers also lie, and make up stuff, using the parts of the story that are true to build false accusations on top of that. The parts of the story that are true will give them credibility and their lies are very very damaging as a result.

It would be admission of guilt, but he could still leverage that. Barca has more to lose than he does if both fall. And Barcelona have money to avoid both getting burned. The amounts paid by Barcelona are tiny compared to their 1bn revenue. It makes sense to avoid dealing with Negreira and to keep paying him.

Up to a point. No blackmail goes forever.

You argument is that he invents a threat and goes to Barca with it and they agree to pay him millions in hush money to keep this invented threat quiet?

I have heard some illogical theories but that takes the biscuit.

It makes zero sense for that threat to then vanish when he leaves office.. when they stop paying him.

He doesn't invent a threat because the money are real. He invents a plausible explanation for what the money were for.

Barcelona are idiots in this matter.

Btw, your theory is what exactly?

The scenario is fantasy and illogical why Barca would choose to pay him having done nothing wrong and then stop when he leaves his role.

Worst theory have read yet.

Barca did something wrong. They paid him.

Come up with your own theory and maybe it is better. Let's hear it. It is the basic Madrid-media one? We paid Negreira and fixed matches Calciopoli style and we are so criminal masterminds that not a single evidence is found? No money trace, bank records, no tapes, nothing?

Doesnt make sense at all and doesnt fit in with stopping paying him when left his role.

To then ignore threats he tried to make.

So Barca paid him for something that was legal... he then takes the money and threatens them with lying about what it was for and they decide to pay him for 17 years.

Only to then stop paying him when leaves office?

Zero chance.

Worst have read yet.

No, Barcelona payments are not normal. Shouldn't have happened in the first place, because it is a conflict of interests. So we fucked up from the start.

But I'm glad, as I said, to talk about other possibilities.

What we know for sure, is that no evidence was found of match fixing, and bribing refs.

I'll take you step by step.

Do you think no evidence was found of bribing refs because there isn't one, or just they didn't look deep enough?

Original point.. only works if Barca had something to hide.

But even then makes no sense to stop paying him when leaves office and he still has the same threat.

We know he tried that and didnt work.

So what is the punishment for Barca now this 'conflict of interest' they tried to hide for so long has been exposed?

Must be huge if paid out millions to avoid it.

OK, so your main theory is that there was indeed pressure put by Negreira on refs to influence officiating, but for some reason, 1) we were criminal masterminds so we left no trace at all (neither we when dealing with Negreira, nor Negreira when passing information to other parties involved in the scheme), or 2) the Spanish authorities found something and they keep it under the rug to protect the image of the entire Spanish football.

How can you know the money weren't paid because Negreira blackmailed the club? Pay up or I tell everyone you bribed refs?

We know we paid large amounts of money to the guy, and that there was no actual service being done according to evidence to justify the money, no?

Blackmail and hush money to keep the guy quiet and try to avoid him going to the press and bring the club into this scandal is most likely explanation for the money being paid to him all this time.
But that means he had something on them in the first place.

And Barca ended the contract once he was fired as vice president of the CTA. When he tried to blackmail the club after that, they ignored it.

Logically it doesnt make sense foe referees to have been influenced.

He didnt have that power and for no one to ever expose been asked and refused etc is impossible.

If had to guess would think most likely he over stated his influence and Barca believed they were paying for eyes on inside of organisation Real had too much power in.

But for Barca to argue they paid but not for influence on inside is not an easy one and they have gone down road of 'prove we broke laws' and saying as little as possible.

The other option is board profiting but would find it hard to believe this would be a process that would just be picked up by next board in.

3) You believe Negreira was used by board members to embezzle funds from the club.
If they are doing embezzlement, you really think they will use the vice president of the CTA rather than another random guy? That adds so much unnecessary risk because if you are caught you will be charged with sporting corruption as well as fraud.

The payments to him are quite obviously corresponding to his role. What exactly he provided we don't know, but it is impossible to think his role wasn't the reason Barca wanted to pay 8 million.

Also you need to believe the next board up decided to go along with it.

The sums are not even big enough to make it all worthwhile for however many would be involved either most likely and what they risked if exposed.

So, Negreira approached the club and fed them a story about how big Real's influence is, and that we need to invest to fight against that? And that he is the ideal man for this task.

This makes sense initially. Not for 18 years. Surely we learned his power is zero after a short while.

Agreed. He probably told FCB he can do this and that and that he has a lot of influence, and being the vice president, they believed in him.

People around him and other referees used to say that he bragged about his influence and control also, but that nobody really believed him.

So in reality FCB were not getting what they thought and his power was vastly overstated, but the problem is that the intention behind the payment will still be seen as criminal.

But he is still a 'man on the inside' to keep eye on things and over state influence.

I mean it did conicide with Barcas greatest ever period.

Is it hard to believe the club thought it was money well spent helping to bring more parity.
