It makes no sense to embezzle money with the vice president of the CTA though, because you are taking huge unnecessary risk and inviting extra charges of sports corruption.

There are much easier ways to do that, obviously, without framing yourself for bribery.

Negreira Jr. is a liar and there’s no way he didn’t know what was going on. He’s just trying to save his own ass.

Regardless of if he knew or not, it remains true that Negreira Sr didn't provide any documented services to the club. Negreira Sr, by all accounts, is the one who received the money and who met with the club etc.

Ironically, he is the one who was most willing to talk, even though he probably hasn't told the full story. He confirmed, in interview, that the payments to him referred to his role and influence in the CTA.
