Cristian "Cuti" Romero

We needed Paredes more. Best midfielder in the cup, agresive, experienced. Sadly he wouldn't have been so motivated.

This is a great opportunity to use the "retired from winning trophies" phrase but..

He is coming from Tottenham

Good for him he plays with Leo on international level

Absolutely scandalous.

Nobody on planet earth will convince me the defender we will play next to Pau this season, is better than Romero.

Nobody on planet earth will be able to give me the name of a better defender that can be bought for the princely sum of 40m.

If Cuti can stay fit, it will be one of the signings of the season across Europe.

It was a decision made together with Flick. So I don't really have an issue even though I also believe he would be a great addition.

Probably has to do with him not being a LCB, not being exceptionally fast which is what we need for the high line and maybe his personality.

If we wanted to we could hijack this at any moment but it's too late now. We will see during the season if Flick made a mistake or not saying no to Cuti.

Micky Van De Ven would be also great signing for CB position but also mission impossible.. With Romero in Atletico, Laporte remaining in Bilbao I doubt Barca will sign any CB.. Perhaps Lukeba from Liepzig but doubt it, he was never linked with Barca this summer

I don't know exactly what is the reasoning behind us not signing this guy exactly, but it was a mistake imo. Natural defender with a big personality and guts.

Could have been for our defense the intense warrior Raphinha is for offense. Big missed opportunity for that price. Put that Isak guy in his pocket.

Us choosing to pass on this guy makes me think we have no plan at all to switch to a more conservative defensive system, no matter the opponent or the situation in the game.

We will approach it in CL the same old way as in previous season and hope pressing will improve with Gordon and Raphinha compared to last season, and hope Rodri protects the backline. But even with those, there will be 4-5 situations of extreme danger vs elite sides. And I want some Romero type to deal with that.

Plus, if you plan to sit back a bit and do some counter attacking football, Romero is one of the best defenders in the world easily for that type of scenario.

Martin + Cancelo/Espart vs Dembele / Doue or Kane / Olise... stuff of nightmares. Better hope our pressing is some insane machine with Gordon and Raphinha, because if fire reaches our end consistently, what we have will fold.

Knowing us, we probably make an offer for Romero next summer.

Like with striker, the club probably has their priorities set in defense. And it's either Bastoni or Schlotterbeck. Don't think they will sign a big name if not one of these 2. Perhaps a cheap market opportunity if it arrives, kinda like what Jesus was on striker, but not much else.

Can't say I'm too devastated. Romero is a good defender but a proper cunt also. Definitely more fitting of a RM or Atletico shirt than that of Barça. I am not saying this should drive our transfer policy of course. A more important reason probably is that he's right footed.

Romero for 40m vs Bastoni for 80m? It's a no brainer. Romero all day every day. The fact he is a cunt (I see it in a positive sense) is a big advantage to me. Nobody in our defense knows the dark arts. Romero constantly hits players, intimidation plays, gets away with many harsh tackles where he gets the ball and then follows through with the opponent's legs. This is pure defending no nonsense ability. Haven't had that in this team in a decade.

I don't know what exactly were the specifics of Romero going for 40m at 28 from EPL. Maybe injuries, I don't know, but it's not a normal price for a World Cup winner in 2026. Absolute bargain for AM, and we'll have issues with him in their defense if we draw AM again. He's no Lenglet .

Let's not forget that more than half the chances we created for the 2-0 lead vs AM away were individual blunders by Lenglet. Cubarsi - Romero would have been a great partnership of different style, different levels of experience and different skillsets. Two World Cup winning defenders.

Every day that passes him not being here becomes more and more of a mistake.

Our defence lacks aggression, a hard man, a cunt that we can celebrate as being OUR cunt.

We are powder puff back there. Beta, when this alpha was there for a pittance.

Folk that don't watch him didn't want him here because he is apparently a red card magnet. Whilst those that watch him know he has become a master at avoiding red cards like Ramos was.

He is already showing us at Atleti, that when he is not at a meme club and actually cares about his football just how great of a defender he is.

With him here I have us as UCL favourites as he is a BORN WINNER. Without him, I do not. The difference is really that big.

To balance out the Gordy/Ferran squabble, yes, this i wholly agree with. Rejecting a proven stud, who would be quite comfortable in Flicks system, while we have all these meme defenders and for that money is really short sighted. Flick is delusional, if he thinks can win big with bunch of bozos led by a talented teenager at the back. Adding him would be almost as impactful as swapping Stegs for Joan. People would wonder how is that this little trick never came to mind of our sports direction before.

What was even more baffling is the fact he was coming off a brilliant WC. :tata:
