Not much changes from last World Cup.
Team is led by Luka Modrić for the last time. Kovacic returned in time and we are hoping Gvardiol makes it too.

Midfield is our stronger point. Solid at the back but somewhat thin on the flanks and in attack. I do like Budimir but its a far cry from attackers we used to have back in the day.

Some of the new guys to keep eye on are Vuskovic and Baturina.

-------------------Livakovic
-----Caleta Car-Sutalo-Vuskovic
Stanisic--Sucic---Kovacic-----Perisic
-------------------Modric
-----------Kramaric--Budimir

Peak Perisic was one of the best players for the National Team. An absolute mentality monster. He was great at everything.

This Croatia team is getting very long in the tooth but I'm sure they will give a good account of themselves

Think Modrić is still an asset as is Perisic.Blth give 100 % for NT.
Budimir has enough in his tank. Very hard working despite his age.
Not a fan of Kramaric though. Would prefer to see younger forward to partner Budimir.

@Barcaman How is the feeling in the country about the NT? I know years ago many were against it because of Mamić and all that corruption. I ocasionally read one of your forums and it seemed more real football fans cheered against Croatia then for it. Seems you guys are more together now, same with Dinamo?

People were always behind the team.
It's the press that sows division and puts a magnifying glass on those few who don't support it.

Coach Dalic basically used 3 different formations in 3 group matches. If he wasn't our coach for this long and this successful I would easily say he doesn't know what he wants.

And now it looks like he will keep this last setup without wingers.

Modric was awful against England. I think he's at a stage in his career physically where he should be playing the last 30 minutes of games, not starting them.

He was pretty good against Ghana. Better than any of your team did against them.

They had some luck in '18 and '22 WC so it evens out I guess. Because here they really had none.

Hit the woodwork, 3 disallowed goals, 5 Costa saves. Complete and utter domination in the second half. Portugal was better in the first half but not nearly as good as Croatia was in second.

Victim to power plays in VAR and calls to gift Ronaldo the penalty which didn't exist. It is really rough and hard loss.

The one thing that can never happen again is that Ramos goal. Gvardiol should play on LB from now on for his country and hopefully by next WC, Vuskovic will have developed too.

Modric and Perisic are gone and with them the Russia gen. But these new players... Sucic, Baturina, Matanovic, Pasalic - monsters, and they will make a great generation too.

Back to Slaven Bilic.

New chapter begins and this is where national team directors enter the picture - managing the transition. Some decline is normal and expected. But collapse like Bulgaria, Romania and Serbia is not realistic given the quality of the younger players and the clubs they play at.
