Not to say Messi wasn't to blame. His amigo side infected the club. He was central to that, and with a spineless rat as President... hard to win CLs.

He was the 9 in his own way. Big target men can't play with prime Messi. We tried it once and Ibra threw a hissy fit and was one of the worst deals in our history. Only super technical 9s could play well with Messi. Forwards like Eto'o, Suarez.

Kane for example, Osimhen, Haaland, even peak Lewa, completely off the mark.

Eto'o played so well with Messi because he was a complete and competitive beast. One of the most complete strikers in the last 30 years.

Big 9s want to be fed. Want to be the main man. This ain't happening with Messi. He will always be the main man even in terms of scoring.

Lewandowski and Kane are more complete than Eto'o. Eto'o was average in the air and couldn't play with his back to goal. He preferred running in behind or getting the ball to feet.

Lewandowski and Kane could do it all in their physical peak (except Kane couldn't run in behind because of lack of pace and Lewandowski couldn't defend/press as well as Kane and Eto'o).

This is not a criticism of Eto'o. He was a beast but I'm talking player profile here. That's why Jose played him wide alongside an actual hold up targetman Milito.

Target men can be technical, mobile and high IQ too like Lewy and Drogba. Ibra and Kane were technical and high IQ too just not very mobile.
 
The market is absolutely cooked nowadays. Imagine if you had the likes of Falcao, Cavani, Aguero, Canute, Forlan etc nowadays. They'd easily command a 125 million plus transfer fee.

I mean, back then folks said CF market is bad, imagine how much would have been paid for Henry, Vieri, Inzaghi, Batistuta, Kluivert, Ronaldo etc.

Alvarez has a big name, that's it. Might as well go for Lautaro but that boat has sailed. Why not Marcus Thuram?

Messi was anomaly. So forget him.
And while Eto'o and Suarez werent a lot taller than Alvarez they were both physical beasts.
 
Suarez and Eto'o are closer in style and physic to Alvarez then some 1,95m classic target man some are crying about for decades.

Suarez and Eto'o held their own against any CBS back then. You stick Alvarez upfront and I see him drift left back and right to find space.
 
Arsenal seems to be very interested on the case as well and of course ATM would sell to them if need to.
So Alvarez would need to push for a Barca move if we want to have a chance on getting him.

Yeah true but there is no Suarez or Eto'o in world football for us to buy, we have to get the best out of what exists right now. Alvarez wouldn't be close to top strikers 15 years ago but he is now.

That too. They were VERY efficient, Alvarez is not.

Flick said too that we need a striker who scores, first anf foremost.

Creativity is already there and we will recycle back possession to create from "nothing".

Striker needs to put those in. Alvarez put in 6/8 entire season.
