Osimhen cant even control a ball, and your talking about upgrade
You must not be very good at understanding a person's; "job description".
STRIKER = Strike, Score GOALS, not control the ball. He is not a winger, false 9 or Midfielder.
Besides your ball controlling Alvarez has 52 goals and 23 assists in 3142 minutes, compared to Osimhen's 75 goals and 21 assists in 841 minutes. Osimhen also averaged 4.49 shots, 2.68 shots on target, compared to Alvarez's 2.86 shots, 1.37 on target, despite playing more minutes, being Atleti's main target/channel, and also playing with teammates superior to Osimhen's.
Let's be true to ourselves here, as a striker Osimhen is head and shoulders above Alvarez in every shape and form

Alvarez is the one and only option. Get him at most for 100m fixed and 20m variables, or invest in other positions.

It's possible Vlahovic doesn't really want to stay at Juve so set a higher asking price but would take less to sign here?

And if we continue to look for cheaper alternatives.

I've mentioned Franculino Dju a few times here already, still like him. He's more in the Osimhen mode so could be worth considering as well for the right price. Injuries could be problematic though. He could easily be the one that will go to a midtable PL team and be worth 100m in a season.

As said before I like Julian but not for 120m or whatever will take to get him. So hopefully Deco is using him as a smoke screen while he's working on another transfer.
I can't for the life of me imagine any player coming straight from Superligaen (my national league) to Barca and succeed right off the bat. Rooney was a star as well there, albeit one who just suffered a major injury which obviously hampered him.

Froholdt is an outlier, and could possibly move up a rung from Porto already this summer, but he's the only one I can think of, who has been capable of that in a long, long time.

Franculino would cost something in the vicinity of 25m, and I can't imagine any top club would gamble that kind of money on a player straight from the Danish league. He could become a star down the road, but will most likely need a few seasons in Portugal or a sub top team in Spain or Germany.

Also, I don't really think he's much like Osimhen at all, but I suppose that's beside the point.

Would I have seen more goals then?
Maybe you’ll notice some other things that make up football besides goals. Maybe his role here would be a bit different. Maybe he would score more goals in a more attacking team. Try looking at it that way, not just through statistics.

That is true for all players though including Osimhen.

I'm not as concerned at his poor goal return at Atleti as others here.

Alvarez's ball striking is the best in the world along with Harry Kane. Given the amount of chances he would get here, it's inevitable he would score a lot of goals for us.

Flick would have to play him differently though. Get him to hang on the shoulder of the last defender and occupy the box more, rather than, like at Atleti, dropping deep and trying to create and score long range bangers.

Alvarez would also be by far the best set piece taker in the team, which tbh is a bit of a problem for us.

However, I'm still not convinced he would help us against an elite low block as much as a penalty box presence, though his long range shooting would certainly help mitigate that.

Does this even make any sense remotely? We are shopping for a striker and Your think we "got the better deal" signing the inferior striker of the two? We are simply sponsoring Atleti's upgrade if anything.
Define Inferior?? Will Alvarez be the inferior option between him & Osimhen when you consider Argentina, PSG or Bayern?? You would be nuts to think it. Alvarez will be the superior option.
Yes its true we might be sponsoring Atleti's purchase. But that can be said about any purchase they make after the Alvarez deal.

I clearly meant Osimhen is a better number 9 for us.
But comparing the prices, Alvarez is a better deal, because there are too many unknowns with Osimhen. If Osimhen was cheaper like around the 80-90m mark, I would have been fine. But for the price above 120m+, its just No.

Atleast with Alvarez we already know his shortcomings in our system. But the guy is a hard worker, and a mental beast. He has never been a problem inside a team. The goals he scores, you can clearly see the quality in those shots. Cohesion in the team is a far superior trait than being the absolute best, Ibra says hello to you. Alvarez will do well for us.

With Osimhen, we just dont know. There is a reason why Top teams are staying away from him, considering the quality he possesses and the market where almost every top team required a ST of his attributes and none went for him. He is playing in Turkey during his prime years.

So, make those fees 90m, and I will take him happily.

Why exactly are we acting like Alvarez is some kind of woke "fake 9" who simply isn't capable of scoring goals or whatever? Just last season, with Atleti, he scored 17 in the league alone.

The fact that this was the worst season of his career and the likes of us, Arsenal, and PSG are still willing to spend +100m on him should also be telling of his quality. But people here want a guy who's spending his prime years in Turkey. Delusional

The guy who plays for Galatasaray, whos career peak was Napoli and no serious team even considers signing would be a clear upgrade on a world champion starter who completed football at 23, played for River, Man City, Atletico and now PSG and Barca are doing their best to sign him just because he scored more goals in a fucking Turkish league while Alvarez plays in top leagues and one of the most defensive sides where chances don't come often. And even that's blown out of proportion, he scored 50 goals in his 2 seasons at Atleti.

49 actually, 10 of them are penalties which he is unlikely to take here as Lamine will be the main taker.

In la liga, his non penalty xG was also bad last year, 8 in la liga last year (1 xG per 290 minutes), both his non penalty goals and xG are less than Sorloth, and per minute is less than Griezmann too. So, the discussion about his team doesn't hold up.

Not to say Alvarez isn't a good player, or he won't be great player. But there is very legitimate concerns tbh. It all depend on which angle you want to focus on.

The facts are that football quality has arguably never been so low, so whoever we buy there are going to be concerns, often plenty of them.

As a result, I'm starting to look at things through the lens of ' what are the alternatives '

One is to buy Espi, hope you strike gold and go with Espi and Ferran for the season, with both getting significant minutes. I'm not actually against this and think it's a legitimate option, as I don't think Ferran is as terrible as most people here.

The other is to buy someone other than Alvarez. Now, if that was Osimhen I'd be all for it, but that seems unlikely. What's more likely is they go and overpay for João Pedro. And I'm talking around 110m for Pedro who in my opinion is barely worth more than the 60m Chelshit paid for him.

I like Bernardo as a centre mid, but if they play him on the right wing where he can't play any more, João Pedro in the middle and Gordon on the left, that front 3 would arguably be the worst front 3 in our history, bar the Koeman broke years.

If the alternative is paying the same sum for João Pedro as Alvarez would cost, then I am 💯 percent wanting Julian here.

So are you sure about these stats?

3142 minutes is like 90 minutes in 35 games, and having 52 goals and 23 assists in that period is insane for any player

841 minutes is like 90 minutes in about 9.3 games, and having 75 goals and 21 assists is mental for that period. So, can you check the stats again

I understand why people would want Osimhen over Alvarez, cause I remember watching Man City against Madrid in 2024, the game got into extra time, and during the 90 minutes, you could see their defense being stressed a lot dealing with Haaland. Alvarez came on in the 91st minute for Haaland, who asked to be subbed, and played the extra 30 before the penalty. Now, you would expect him to come in with more energy to trouble Madrid's backline, but the pressure vanished since the physicality wasn't there anymore (you can rewatch the game and you'll see it).

I also recall Van Dijk and Liverpool's defense having lots of issues dealing with Osimhen, so I get the obvious benefits Osimhen can bring with his physicality. I think either would be a good addition here
