Manchester City

Yeah EPL allowed this to go on for over a decade and then cried foul once it realized how utterly inferior many of the other teams had become relative to City. And even tho FFP does more to protect the top legacy teams, the "oil money" narrative is used by the entire league now to minimize City's sporting achievements, as if the EPL would have done a damn thing if United had been the beneficiary.

So... not about oil money but rather about who benefits from it. I repeat this line of thought merely cause my feed keeps reminding me of the damn hypocrisy.

We have one, but as long as Simeone keeps coaching them, they'll have no chance in challenging the title. They spend enough money lately to challenge the title in theory. But for that they need a new coach with an idea how to build an attack and score goals. It's pretty obvious he holds Atletico back by now.
The Americans are under the illusion Simeone is capable of winning, but this only happens when Barca are in a crisis mode. The COVID season and Tata Martino tragedy in 2013/14.

Frankly I don't understand the logic behind making Simeone the highest paid manager with 25m p/a for finishing 3rd, sometimes even 4th in a three big team league.

If City get punished for this, then so should Chelsea, it wouldn't be fair if one is punished and not the other, the one who basically started it all.

Also they will never get punished, but QSG is worse than all the other plastic clubs combined.

And City owns Girona too but he (I should say RFEF and LL, not only Tebas) never let the financial doping the English have allowed in recent decades. He took the FFP rules too far but it's better than the wild west that happened in England until recently.
Since Girona qualified for CL few years ago, City Football Group had to freeze its connections to the club due to UEFA ownership rules. That freeze included loaned players, sharing of scouting data and analytics. In other words City abandoned Girona for one season, in which they played in Champions League, but this resulted in fatal collapse - 16th in La Liga. Next season they were relegated.

Would be hilarious if United fans celebrating this like they won back-to-back CLs end up with City getting stripped off the titles and Liverpool getting them instead as they were the runner-ups in most seasons where City won.

Yeah, the whole thing smells like BS. Probably some higher-ups in the league stopped receiving money.
I’m not saying that City didn’t cheat, everybody knows they did, but they’re not the only ones. Chelsea did it first.

The whole concept of awarding City trophies to other clubs carries the domino effect of subsequent complaints on Abramovich era Chelsea after 2003.

Then EPL have to rewrite history of the past 23 years. But, but, but there was no FFP back then. I wonder what Mourinho has to say on the matter.

There is close to zero chance that City will have their titles stripped. I actually think the league needs to be very careful in how they approach this, because what happens if it turns out that Liverpool and Arsenal have done dodgy business? Do you relegate them too and torpedo your league? It has the potential to be catastrophic to the point that I'm kinda surprised they didn't look for a settlement option at some point to avoid all this. Maybe City thought they were calling their bluff. Even behind closed doors the noises out of the club are that even if found guilty they don't think they'll be relegated.

If the Prem is smart they would do the following :

1) No points deduction this season as they know doing so will kill interest in the league as Arsenal will have a cake walk.

2) 50 point deduction for next season. Your need around 40 points to avoid relegation. A 90 point season is a title winning season in most years, so the hype in the Prem next season will be ' Can City survive the drop? '. Believe me, plenty of people worldwide will be interested in that scenario. It would be fascinating !

3). Huge financial penalty and numerous year transfer ban, say 3 years. This just to satisfy other fans present bloodlust. It won't really hurt City much as they've just bought for the next 3 years, this year, anyway, and with their squad will always be a contender.

With the above, their is a big chance that not only EPL viewership is unaffected, but it could actually increase with the City fighting relegation scenario, and City could actually never be end up getting relegated, whilst being able to point to an unprecedented points deduction, fine and transfer ban as ample and fair punishment.

For 2), you are assuming they will have the team to reach 90 points. How motivated do you think their stars will be for that?

UK is definitely completely morally and culturally degenerate state and their judicial system is an evil farce, but it mostly hurts ordinary native British people. They will try to make concession with the sheikhs and also not want to hurt the overall revenue flows in the league as there are too many important people, who will loose money or reputation or will come under closer scrutiny, if Cheaty gets adequately severe punishment. Epstainreich people will get slap on the fingers, because they and people making judgement are all in the same club of pervy enemies of the people.

The Premier League should float the idea of giving the Man City ownership a gigantic fine £2bn+ that the rest of the teams in the league would be eligible to a slice of on the basis that they agree not to sue City for damages. Then tack on a big points deduction and/or transfer ban or whatever. Best way to wrap up this mess I think.

But it isn't a three big team league, never was. Atletico never was at Madrid's or Barca's level.
The fact that they spend 200M in one summer don't put them on same spending bracket as the big two. Madrid gets Mbappe "for free" and Barca gets two wonderkids from La Masia that are worth 500M. The big two are basically state backed clubs. One by Spain, the other by Catalunia. Stature, revenue, wage bills, squad values, international following etc are on another level for the big two.

The only way Atletico would have a chance to consistently be successful and really challenge the duopoly is if they get financially dopped a la City. Otherwise everything is in favour of Barca and Madrid. And this goes for any team in that league, anywhere basically if you think about it. There really aren't many cities or regions Europe that rich to sustain monster clubs. Unless some oil money from countries that aren't really democracies comes in an unbalances the status quo.

How that works? The state of Catalunya gives money to Barca?

In Madrid's case the city/state and their real estate businesses are well known but how do you think that works at Barca? Saw a lot of time statements like this but never an explanation. It's an easy bullshit statement.

More or less. As in it is the symbol of Catalonia and one of their political tools. Also one of their biggest asset culturally. That's where the Mes que un club slogan comes from.

Why would it be a bullshit statement if it's the crown jewel of one of the most economically powerful regions in Europe?

A comparable situation is Bayern and Bavaria.

Barca is the crown jewel of Catalonia but that doesn't explain the mechanics of how the state backs the club financially. Given the international status of the club, our spending history, and the repercussions we faced over it... they're not doing a great job.

Step up Catalunya :staringpep:
