Something's wrong with Christian Eriksen, sadly again. Collapsed holding his chest.
Seems to have regained his conscious and is being escorted away from the stadium in ambulance. Scary stuff still and hopefully everything goes OK in the next 48 hours.

It’s time to retire though. Football ain’t worth it.

Doesn't he have some sort of electronic defibrillator installed? Probable had a cardiac incident and that device did its job.

Per reports the ICD "restarted" his heart.

While it's a relief at the moment, there's also the realization that the heart muscle is further damaged at age of 34.

Yeah, I would have retired the moment it happened the first time tbh. No point in stressing a heart like that for football.

I do not agree with this in general. He knows the risk and is an adult.

Ofc we can't make a decision for him. He'll have to do that after consulting his family and doctors. But he's 34 and has enough money to live comfortably so is it really worth to further risk his health to play another season or two?

Even playing at the World Cup in that heat (if he's still considering that after what happened yesterday) would be very risky in his condition. Tbf it will be dangerous for all players so hopefully this summer we won't see a repeat of what happened to Eriksen at Euro 2021.

Damn, this is a very long list of players who died after on field incidents.

Some ofc died for other reasons, especially 100+ years ago but over last 30 years probably around 90% of players died with heart related issues.

It's very rare on top level. I cannot forget the moment Marc Vivien Foe died on the pitch in 2003 and Miklos Feher the year after.

Also Puerta, remember that one the most. There was a couple in a few years at the start of the century.

Hope Eriksen is ok and won't risk it again, there are more important things in life then football.

I do think the ethical debate is interesting and while Serie A took a stronger stance to ban players with ICDs the medical/research risks suggests the evidence doesn't really support a ban due to safety/SAEs. Plus, Eriksen did go on to play in several leagues with in ICD after his initial cardiac event in 2021 without incident

A bit traumatic though for all the other players who share the pitch I suspect if the ICD is triggered to activate during a cardiac event during play
