Puskas, Van Basten, R9 are all better, easily so. Puskas is criminally underrated. You haven't even mentioned him.

Romario definitely had more to his game. G Muller is underrated in general play. If you consider Pele a 'striker' (I don't) he's obviously levels and levels above Lewy.

Then you have strikers of his own generation you can legitimately argue are better and/or had more to their game - Benzema, Suarez, Kane, Zlatan.

Guys like Batistuta, Kocsis and Eusebio would score for fun if they were playing in the teams Lewy did. They scored for fun in lesser teams.

He's a great player and brilliant striker, maybe top 10 striker ever, but top 5? Come on, that is disrespectful to the sport. It's another Cristiano Ronaldo case - made to look better than he is by the stats explosion of modern football. Not saying he hasn't been fantastic, but don't do what certain others do and claim he's better than players he's clearly inferior to. There's far too much competition.

For me Pele but also Puskas, Gerd Muller and other players playing in 50s, 60s, 70s cannot be easily compared with „todays” players. Todays players are from early days of their careers trained to be the best and are like machines/products. Football is much more professional then it was in those 60s or 70s. And if it is more profesional then there is more competition and more difficult. And thus in my opinion players are just generally better. More and more money is pumped into football so players can focus on just being better and better. their only responsibility is to train and play, something which was not common in Pele years. Pele, part of his career played in amateur league… Brazilian league became profesional in 1971 as I see. But please I don’t want to trigger anyone, just saying what’s my opinion and will be happy to hear counterarguments.

But clearly a player born in the 30s or 40s can be better than a player born in the 90s. We can easily tell for instance that George Best or Garrincha were miles better than Lingard or Rashford, despite the latter playing in a way more 'professional' era.

This idea that football in the 60s and 70s was garbage is modern fan bollocks that isn't even true. It's a myth that is completely ovrplayed. Serie A of the 80s for example is probably the most challenging league in history.

As for Pele - when he played in Brazil, Brazil were world champions with a lot of the best players in the world, and Brazilians tended to stay in their own country. The idea that he was playing against nobodies is ignorant modern fan bollocks. He also did really well in exhibition matches (which were taken seriously) against top European sides.
