Man United fans seem to love them and much prefer them to Barca. I attribute this to three reasons.Quite how they are not the most reviled sporting institution on the planet I will never know.
Instead they are known as ' the biggest club in the world ' , even by a lot of Barca fans who see how they cheat every week.
And their biggest competitors are known as the ones that paid the refs.. Hollywood couldn't make a better comedy.
1) The Ronaldo (and to a lesser extent Beckham) connection;
2) Barca pumping United in two CL Finals, so a hatred and petty inferiority complex to Barca;
3) and in my eyes most important: Real are like the big brother version of United. Real Madrid play the same counter-attack football, but way better. Real have better historical legends than United. Real are seen as the 'biggest club in Spain' like United view themselves as in England. Real have five times as many European Cups as United, which United fans are in awe of as they desperately wish they'd won more of them. And just generally United fans are drawn more to that fast-paced, play rubbish but win in moments football that Real play, than the lovely football Barcelona play. United see Real as similar to them. They'd never admit it but they wish they were Real.

I am not one susceptible to conspiracy thinking but I am still shocked about the penalty given.
