Silly notion IMO. That has more to do with popularity than legendary status. Or is it the same thing really? For example, more people probably know about Nicklas Bendtner than Max Kruse. Doesn't mean the one is better/more of a legend for being more popular.

While I agree, the question bears not "Who is the greater player" but rather, "Who is the greater legend?" I think winning a world cup adds to the legendary status of a player. I'm confident Lomu was better at his peak though. I don't like to compare players of any sport to one central value...
