Players like Messi, just aren‘t meant to be subs. It sounds great in theory, but almost all great players (most of which are 2-3 tiers below Leo) retired from their NTs as starters.

Still, a Messi-CR duo (assuming they got on relatively well) would be dominant at least until 2018-2019, also provided they had a competent team+coach.
