In my opinion, Pique left the defence susceptible to attack and he seemed lost far too often. Also, these moments of complete stupidity are too common with Pique, especially considering that he should be a world class defender if he's playing for Barca.

Mathieu is a decent defender in my opinion. Although it would have been nice to sign Mathieu as well as Benatia/Hummels. Anyway I have faith in Bartra, and more faith than I have in Pique. I'd like to see Bartra play CB with Mathieu more often.

I don't think that's the reason, I believe he seemed a lot better back in the day because he had Puyol to keep him in line and make up for his clumsy mistakes.

I was going to say the same thing. Watching the team chase after the ball after they lose it is very satisfying to me. Love to see that hunger, rather than the attacking players walking back and waiting for the defenders to get the ball back.
