Barça did well in betting on him, and LaMasia gave a good environment for him to develop, but Messi was Messi since he was 10, and he would have been the amazing player he is in any other club in the world.

Look at 0:27 and the control at around 0:36, barca was lucky that messi happened to come here.
As for the argentinean clubs, you guys forget that the country was in a state of panic atm, there's no way the clubs would spend money for a 13year old.

It was, as I'm sure other clubs would once they saw his development. Messi was and is still a hard worker and extremely competitive. You include his god-given talents and he would have worked out anywhere.
