I don't understand this Mascherano-criticizing madness! This semi-pointless signing you are referring to, was a stand out performer in a Champions league final,with the team that conidered the best Barcelona team in history! At some point last season he was ahead of Puyol and Pique in the pecking order..
Yeah let me just be clear I was criticizing more his signing than him. Even with his defensive errors we knew he was being forced into a new position, and was outmatched by forwards alot because of his size.
I more had a problem with buying him in the first place. I think JM was excellent at Liverpool, but why we didn't sign a real center half like others are saying was beyond me. I was saying in the summer that we should just offload him because he just WASN'T a fit for the team. I don't know if his value has dropped.

Yes but most goals we conceded this season that were his fault were due to his bad positioning.

Agreed. Forget about an unbeaten season, with those 2, we'd probably WIN every game. Especially if we get Neymar as well (highly doubt we'll get all 3 at once, so we'll probably have to wait until 2014 to get him). I say buy someone like Hummels, then give Song and Mascherano 1 season to fight over the bench spot, with the loser getting sold next summer.
I do think signing Song was a good idea, we did need a backup for Busquets with Mascherano playing as a CB, though 19m was a little excessive for a backup. I would have signed a CB and made Mascherano the Busquets backup instead, but oh well. I definitely agree that there won't be room for both of them if we get a new CB though.

Despite the fact that he works hard and performs well throughout a match, he still is a huge liability. All it takes is one of his massive errors for the opposing team to capitalize and score a goal. And these errors are so huge that conceding is pretty much guaranteed. His positioning is off, he is slow, he dives into some stupid tackles, and he is not a natural CB. We need him for depth and as a backup but he should always be considered as a backup. Imagine playing a defensive line where both fullbacks are in fairly advanced positions even while defending and there is a huge amount of space left by Mascherano for the opposition team to attack in. In a scenario like that, Pique is the only defender who is covering the goal. That kind of scenario happens at least once or twice per game in which Mascherano plays and we always end up conceding from it.

Masche does not go up, he stays left behind because he´s too slow. Plays like a midfielder in a CB position. Never seen such crazyness in a top club. These stupid decisions have already cost some trophies. 7 goals in the last 3 games. Outrageous.

Mascherano needs to abandon his midfielder concepts and start thinking like a CB. If he can get some tips, even training, from Puyol and other experienced defenders, THEN perhaps he could be a good CB.
i would be more pleased if he abandons CB....

Why do we insist on teaching a DM to be a CB? It's clear it's not working. Just let the remainder of the season pass by and then get a good defender. In the meanwhile hope for minimum costly errors from him
