I don't see why he needs to move on? The best case senario for us is to sign a quality CB, sell Song and move Mascherano back to a DM role, where he can rotate with Busquets and also act as cover for the CB position. Since Yaya left, we have really struggled to find a decent replacement for Busquets. Imagine the nightmare we would be in if he picked up a long term injury? Doesn't bear thinking about. In Mascherano we have the solution.

I like Javier and absolutely appreciate his contributions - some of which has been vital in central defense...But we've seen that the CB experiment is great if our first choice options are unavailable since he shouldn't start...As a DM, I don't believe him or Song are Barcelona quality

Completely agree! Ideal scenario for me is buy a world-class CB to partner Pique (Benatia please!) and then have Bartra as 3rd choice / rotation. Masch moves to CDM back-up for Busi and Song is sold.

Who do you suggest as a back-up CDM for Busquets then? If Mascherano is not Barca quality, who can we possibly buy who would: a) be better than him, b) not cost 40m+ & c) be happy with a substitute's role?
