2 - Pau Cubarsí

Crazy to think how some was unhappy Cubarsí was promoted by Xavi, even a few saying it was Catalan bias and that Faye and Mbacke were better prospects.

Xavi saw what we all know now, that this kid has the potential to be the world's best ball playing CB.

I have never understood this POV when one of our cantera kids demonstrate what has long been seen/talked about for years...moreover, Cubarsi has looked as generational as Lamine does since training much less in matches. Defenders simply don't get the same visibility that attacking or flair players do but I honestly have similar shock over Cubarsi than I do Yamal - he's extraordinary and I do believe he looks even better on the left.

But a sensational player and personality, I absolutely love his character - only natural he admires Puyol. The irony of course is that I think Cubarsi has so much more in his locker to show the world - Pique & Puyol must be in disbelief that someone like this has emerged and executed at this age

Poor Spain, La Roja fanatics will have to endure Barça again dominating their NT for the next decade

He's only 16 but he looks a bit weak no? Haven't seen him play much at all, but is there a risk of him being another Eric Garcia?
Xavi hates African players, that's simple really...
My only criteria is seeing them both in the B team, to which Faye has been a better player and had to bail out Pau a number of times.

I get Xavi may prefer a system player who works better in position. But if we need to bring one on to defend. Then I know who that should be.

Now we do need to tie Pau up long term and there are wolves sniffing. Namely Pep if you follow the whispers. So I can get that being the most likely logic in his preference for call-ups.
Maybe I oversold it a bit, but if you go back to the first page you're the one to accuse Xavi of having a racial bias lol

No one ever really shitted on him or Xavi for promoting him lol

He just reads the game really well which is the first thing you have to be impressed by for a debutant central defender. We see the young kids perform higher up the pitch where you aren’t as vulnerable to being punished by errors. So while the composure is obviously something we see in a lot of the young La Masia players anyway, it’s even more than that - his positional awareness, coupled to forward passes to evade pressure & start attacks - he had a direct hand in 2/4 goals

Defensively, his phyical tools are obviously more impressive than Eric but its the interventions he anticipates so consistently that is mature for a player of his age. I think there was one moment where he wasn’t in the right position throughout the match, on Mayoral’s late chance otherwise he was the key ball distributor on a day where the team continued to struggle dealing with the high press. Won every duel he had making a formidable pairing with Araujo in the center of defense

Pau ended the match failing to make a single error - his passes appear to have the potential to be a great weapon when you expect to see that more from a DM, or say a young Pique. Better still than the improvements we are sure to see physically and tactically in a player a decade away from his prime

Probably grows taller than his current 1.85 too
I remember how impressed I was on his debut, it was a certainty he was special

HIs maturity in this age is the most impressive thing for me. There are many 25 year olds who behave like teenagers on the field, then there is a 17 year old Cubarsi who plays like he's in his 10th season for Barca's first team.
The club needs to kiss Xavi's feet for stopping him joining City group by promoting him to the first team.

We talk about how young Yamal is and rightly so, but I'm more impressed with Cubarsi as he is playing in a position where defenders improve a lot more with experience than attackers.

He's playing as if he were 27 years old and his positioning, calmness and dealing with the high line is incredibly impressive, considering his physicality and inexperience.

Long may it continue.

To be fair he was always considered highly rated within the club but he wasn't a nailed on starter with the B team and was a surprise he got the call up.
