The issue is the length of his contract. 2, even 2 + optional 1 and it's a good transfer. We just gave him too long of a contract, which in the end makes the deal mediocre, I agree.

That would not be good.

His amortized cost of 25m then huge wages on top would be ridicuously bad.

There is no scenario that fee and wages were anything but a terrible idea and for what team needed.

We'll see. Most of these youngsters won't see game time once the season starts. You've already got more players ahead of him and he's unlikely to make the bench. But I'd prefer him to Romeu as a sub.
