What's your point? That Frenkie is so horrible that Utd and City only bid 90ME

You know who's a real flop? Coutinho.

My point is that a majority of fans will never learn.

We have an eternal need for overrating and overhyping our players, especially the younger ones because they bring HOPE.

Only in the last 3-4 years we could have seen nonsense like:
1. Frenkie is the best young midfielder in the world
2. Arthur is the 2nd best young midfielder in the world
3. We will dominate the world for the next 10 years with the best duo Frenkie-Arthur
4. We don't need to buy new midfielders because we are stacked in midfield and we will hinder the development of our young midfielders, so let's sell everyone and keep only Frenkie, Arthur, Alena, Puig, baby Busi Oriol.
Fast forward 4-5 years and none of those 5 will be here with 4 of them turning ouf to be a total disgrace of players and only Frenkie being so-so but nowhere as good as expected
5. Lately we are entering a new loop of delusion where we should be fine for a decade with Pedri, Gavi, Nico. Some still have hopes on Puig.

We are cursed with having Xavi-Iniesta-Busi and a majority of fans will chase that standard eternally.
Turning every bum or a semi decent passer into = a decade of dominance along that way.

BBZ - what would be your ideal midfield for Barca from the players available and could realistically bring in?

Ask you this every time and disappear.

Quite the arrogance when state 'majority of fans will never learn' for liking FDJ and rating him when your favs have been Coutinho, Braithwaite and Mingueza.

Also dishonest in how you speak about young players such as Pedri, Gavi and Nico etc. Goes from saying they wont be good enough and folk over rate them to you trying to position yourself as correct if they dont dominate for years together.

Same old moving of goal posts as ever.

So what should Barcas midfield look like from players and potential transfers. Say if had your number of 60m to spend?

1) Frenkie voted best midfielder in europe a few years ago. Not just young midfielder, best midfielder and users said he's therefore the best young midfielder in the world. How is that not the truth at the time?

2) When Arthur first started getting game time people thought he was a very good young midfielder, which he was. Turns out he's nowhere near professional enough so didn't maintain that level. He had his uses when he was acting professionally, he was limited in many aspects but that didn't really matter with the players around him.

3) People would only assume we would dominate should Frenkie/Arthur live up to expectations + if we wouldn't be in a terrible financial situation. Since they didn't live up to potential (Frenkie may still) and our finances are terrible with a squad that is now terrible, no one would say that we would dominate.

4) Very few people rated Alena, Puig and Oriol. You're referencing maybe a handful of people on here.

5) Plenty of people have said Pedri, Nico, Gavi + Frenkie can be the future but that they also need some experience and a different profile to go with it. The entire footballing world rates Pedri as the best young player in the word. One of the standout players at the Euros. Gavi called up and performed well for Spain. Nico still lots to prove. Frenkie, see above.

Why do you bother to come on here and write posts that strawman most of what people say?

Which midfielders in world football would you have starting for barca right now? You can pick any 3 in the world.

edit: lol jamdav beat me to the question

I think he is needed for Xavis system. He obviously wants intense pressing the same way as Pep and Frenkie does a lot of unsung work for that. Busquets looked not so bad in latest match, because there were people, who watched his ass. He's like peak Rakitic, who can run for 90+ minutes and also sometimes contribute to attack. Even if he doesn't build up on this, he's still very useful and underrated for this. I never thought he was supposed to be some kind of final third ace with great through balls like some of you think he should be. We have enough of those up and coming anyway. Thought he's mainly defensive player, who knows how to hold and move the ball, resisting press.

Just to put our midfield situation into context: would you guys trade our set of midfielders for any other in the world (City, Bayern...)?

First time in ages I am genuinely happy with the options we have.

I think Xavi will try to make him that kind of midfielder, but I think he is far from it at the moment - much too afraid and middle-speed, he needs to get closer more often and not fall into the knee of the defenders all the time.
Busquets was absolutely great last game, but I don't think it was because of Frenkie, who I by the way thought was the midfielder who struggled a bit in that game.

No, and I answered and asked you a question in another thread, rude not to answer!
But I wrote the other day the same thing, Barcelonas midfield situation is very much great right now. I'd never say no to Thiago for the right price, but otherwise, it is only Busquets age that is a bit worrying, no need for improvement other than that in the foreseeable future.

DJ wasn't killer pass merchant for Ajax so i wouldn't understand why he should become one here. From the very beginning he was supposed to be Busquets heir.

If we had 60m to spend, I would surely sell Frenkie for 90.
Then we have 150m, right? Or are there some La liga restrictions (we can spend only 25% of money we make)?
If that so, we would have 60+22m= 82m

I would get rid of Cou because of wages and since he just can't fit here.
I would also be open to selling Pedri for 80-100m if Liverpool or someone would offer.
Since he is not much better than other young midfielders, imo, and he is not a gamechanger.

If there are no bids for Pedri, then I would surely play Pedri, Nico, Gavi plus Busi.
Since we aren't good enough, I wouldn't spend money on unneeded transfers.
For remaining 60-82m, I would try to buy a winger, or a CF or both for 50+30 or 40+40 (or more if we would sell Pedri and if there are no La Liga restrictions).

The thing is: I WOULD SURELY play these La Masia kids. Not because I think that they are awesome but because we are broke and they aren't THAT bad.
On the other hand, some users here think that they are a real deal, which I disagree, but ok.

On the other hand, I am not in the board, so I don't know the goals of our team.
If the president says that we need to be in top4 due to sponsors, CL and fans, then we might need to spend 5-10 on some granny forward or a winger.
On the other hand, if the board would say: no pressure about results, then I wouldn't spend money on grannies but I would sell Cou, Pique, Frenkie, Pedri and all players on whom we can earn a lot or get rid of their wages. We would rebuild a team and lower the debts.

But again, I don't know the real numbers.
Maybe money earned on Pique's and Cou's wages is nothing compared to being in top4 and qualifying for a CL.

If results are a must, then we would be forced to spend some money on a granny forward or even granny midfielder or someone else.

About names, I am not sure about Sterling because historically Barca and English players don't fit together.
There is a huge chance for a flop and for being a weird fit, just like Messi at Psg currently.

The core difference is in mentality.
Not you, but a lot of users who are taking for granted: we are Barca, we will find the way back on top.
My opinion is: well, maybe. Probably not anytime soon.
Since we don't have money, unlike 2003 when we started our rise.
We don't have Xavi-Iniesta, unlike 2003'.
We don't have Goat Messi, unlike 2006-2015.
Circumstances are way different. EPL is too rich now, we are not among top money clubs anymore.
Oil clubs emerged who are stealing all the best players and all free transfers, unlike 2004 when we were signings Larsson and Van Bommel for free.
Today all of them would end at Psg.
Football has evolved and changed. Teams have took the best parts of our football and improved it with physique and a fighting spirit, while we are chasing the budget copy of our football from 12 years ago.
So, the things aren't looking too bright.
In that sense, I don't believe in a happy ending.
But, as said: I would STILL play Nico-Gavi because there is no other way and they are extremely cheap.
But the fact that I would play them doesn't mean that I am expecting wonders. They are here until they fail or until we find someone better.
Where I disagree with other fans, I sense a lot of hope where some fans actually believe that we could get back on top with Pedri, Nico, Gavi, Fati (there are a lot of Youtube videos: Barca's future is bright, Nico is a real gem, La masia is again creating wonders etc)
Everything is possible in life, but I wouldn't give it more than 10% of a chance.

In general, I don't disagree with the way what the club is doing with players.
I just disagree with some fans where I think that we are heading for a decade of mediocrity, while a lot of fans believe that a happy ending is just around the corner with a mighty Xavi, 4 La Masia midfielders, forever injured Fati and 2-3 good signings.
I am not pointing a finger at you in this case, though.

When you sum all the factors: our board, our debts, our current players, the quality of our youngsters, oil clubs, EPL money, the evolution of modern football, my opinion is that our next decade will be similar to Liverpool in 90s and 00s, or Arsenal after 2010, or Milan in the last 15 years.

Rory, Alena was here rated as the best midfielder since Xavi, Iniesta and Thiago. The first real deal in a decade.
For a short time even I was on a hype train, he was the future captain and a leader of Barca.

Barçapocalypse NOW!
Way to dodge the question, hahaha! It was a clear "give two names you think would make our midfield better" and this guy writes a treaty of mostly unrelated drivel...

So BBZs ideal midfield is Pedri, Nico and Gavi.

Never has there been someone who flip flops opinions more.

Goes on about how poor Barca mid is and people 'never learning' when praising Pedri, Nico and Gavi... and then names them his ideal midfield.

Then goes on to moan about midfield being over rated again further in post.

The reason is clear though... doesnt want to name any others and be wrong. Name the players there and still call them not good enough if fail.

As weasel answer as would expect and cant answer question as predicted.

Bobo writes more sense than that.

He literally said not that it's his choice but given the circumstances best we can spare

Obviously BBZ prefers Bayern's midfield
