23 - Jules Kounde

Have to give some credit to Xavi imo. He was heavily involved in recruiting all new signings and whatever he said to the players must have worked as I'm sure Raphinha and Kounde turned down better financial offers from Chelsea and Lewa didn't even want to hear about interest from other clubs than Barca. And he obviously also convinced AC and Kessie months ago to join us.

That's how the things should be not mostly signing players only because you offer them the biggest wages.

Yes, big credit to Xavi.
He is selling the Barca project really well.
Without him, no Lewa, no Kounde, no Kessie for sure

We really did Chelsea dirty this window damn.

tbf, everyone knew we had deal agreed with Raphinha and his agent literally work for us, way before they tried to get him.
Kounde was also known to be priority for us, and we had interest in Koulibaly but didn't try to compete with them

It's more media stirring a story than anything, and the. Fan banter.

Chelsea already signed Koulibaly as said above who was our target with Kounde.

Reading PSG are asking 70m for Kimbempe now. Bit too much that one. Let's see who Chelsea turn to instead.

Part of it comes down to the inexperience of Todd Boehly in football.

He is a good businessman, and he respects his negotiators (unlike others) doesn't lowball them, but he doesn't have the expertise to be an SD.
If they had an SD, they would have avoided the embarrassment of Raphinia and Kounde deals, they wouldn't have gone into negotiations to begin with.

Edu, Arsenal's SD, explained it well about Raphinia. He said he had talks with Deco where he understood the player has set his mind to go to Barca, hence they didn't started negotiations with Leeds, even though he was their target 1 for the winger position.
