Motm until xavi decided to fuck him up. He assisted bellingham yes, but if he didnt cleared that there is high possibility that we would concede anyway. This guy already matured, i hope there is still some room for improvement and cl ko would tell us. he is close to kick the world class door.

Dont see that performance nearly as good as made out.

Gundogan was far better and the one controlling game while Barca had control.

Gavi played well in first half but nothing exceptional.

each goals were his fault. in first goal he have to stay close to Bellingham, not to go inside. Second, he was late to block between carvajal and modric.

Harsh to blame goals on him but he didnt come close to controlling game in way made out.

Gundogan had twice as many passes, better pass %, better range of passes, gave away ball less and scored.

Gavi made less passes than every starting mid bar Fermin and had worse % than all of those also with only Bellingham giving ball away more... but he scored twice.

He was hammering about pitch chasing anything that moves as soon as Real made it more of a midfield battle and Barca lost all control in that area.

Played well enough in first half and tidy on ball and won it back with lots of fouls as ever but fuck me folk are desperate to make out he is better than is near enough every game.

I've flamed Gavi on here repeatedly but with all due respect, his job ISN'T to be a passing maestro with high accuracy.
I believe Xavi views him as this utility player who does a bit of everything; tackle, pass, assist, press, impose, cover fullbacks, run in behind etc etc. But he doesn't excel at any of them really. He has his use but only with the composure beside him (Frankie/Gundogan/Pedri)

Gavi's 1st half was absolutely brilliant and I don't think we can ask a huge amount more at this stage (considering how Xavi is limited as a coach)

2nd half, he went back to running around like he was looking for his keys, agreed.

His ill-discipline and stupid yellows/reds are still my biggest concern as the season goes on.

A Barca midfielder playing in there always needs to be helping dominate the ball and dictate tempo.

It is what made his first half good.. not as good as some make out but good.

His second half was terrible as he could barely find ball as Barca lost control and he gave it away the most despite being on it the least of those midfielders.

Of course it part of his job to get on ball and help team control that area of the park.

What was the difference between first and second half or him if it was not how much he got on the ball?

Sure he was good defensively but he can't do shit offensively without luck. No pass threat to save his life. He fits xavi 1-0 black magic gimp 'strategy' but that's it.

He was good, but seems as usual, a different standard is applied to his performances.

Anything good he does is insanely overplayed and anything bad he does is mostly ignored.

Good game defensively but again for a midfielder strikingly few key actions on the ball. It seems more and more he is part of a midfield that loses control of the ball for both club and country, whilst people point to his tackles and pressing as a reason he is world-class.

It doesn't matter where he broke out, it's clear that with his mediocre offensive output and excellent tackling and ball-retaining skills, his place is at the base of the midfield. By getting more on the ball, he will also develop his playmaking capabilities; learn when to switch, play through balls, drive forward, etc. He is definitely not a 10.

Needs to massively improve his positioning defensively to play deeper and cant chase everything that moves.

Too much is made of his 'ball winning' when he leaves gaps time and again in bad areas.. see Real game at weekend.

Also needs to improve his range on the ball an pause to control tempo a lot more.

He isnt a 10 at moment as doesnt have the quality to play there to any great level but to be a top player deeper he has a lot to learn and nowhere near a top player there currently.

Gundo, FDJ and Pedri are all better deeper at moment.

Would agree his best position in team currently is left DM in a two where can use his energy but not close to FDJ there or better than Pedri/Gundo for me.

Box to box with someone beside him to reign him in and control him positionally is his best position for now in my opinion as he can move ball quickly and turn in tight spaces..but needs to learn when to do both, he is aggressive and can be threat in opposition box in air for his size, his finishing is decent.

But as said dont think he is better currently in that role than Pedri/FDJ/Gundo and wouldnt be surprised that when all fit he is back to being same position as last season and Xavi picks him ahead of Felix.

Don't say rational things here, just let them keep hating on the kid for not being kaka prime, when that's clearly not his game, everyone who isn't a gavi hater knows this.

It matters 'where he broke through' when some try to claim Gavi played deeper in youth stages when he never did.

Folk are 'Gavi haters' if think some others are over rating his performances.

Top stuff.

How does he have 'excellent ball retaining skills'? He is far off FDJ, Pedri and Gundogan on how well gets on ball, keeps it and what he can do with it currently.

Always the last line of argument the old 'hater' shout when cant rationally argue back with anything.

Make out Gavi was 'class' v Real and anyone who doesnt agree is a 'hater'.

Usual nonsense from usual folk.

Interesting that saying Gavi has 'mediocre offensive output' is now seen as a 'rational' thing to say. Fair change that.

Gavi lacks positionally for DM at moment but may get away with it beside someone that can help him learn.

Watch how he chased ball into areas he never should have for Reals two goals. As ever is positionally naive and needs to improve on that big time.
