I would never blame a club for retaining their star player, and let's face it even most of us miss he sob that is Neymar and would have preferred if we were able to keep him and we could still win shit this year (even with him)
That said, their fans had some illogical arrogance in the whole case, their club has been always a selling club, and even many of their writers said if the offer was in June they would have sold him. And in anyway you should brag about trophies not retaining your player.
That said, Catalan media didn't help either

How depressing must it be for Coutinho to know he could have been at Barca, but instead gotta play with Liverpool's farmer defence and Klopp's rock n roll tactics exposing it even more

One I could really feel bad for is Naby Keïta, he committed his future for them but next year he could be moving from a CL team to Europa League team, who might even lose Klopp to Bayern and Coutinho to us.

You know that it's bad when FC Deluded Arsene is likely to finish above you.

Wenger had an amazing record in reaching CL that only ended last season.

Liverpool have screwed us and for what? So they can finish 6th and leave Coutinho trophyless again. Still pisses me off.

It's not like they'll ever win anything. They're a selling club yet they decide to pick on Barca and refuse to sell, probably out of spite because Southampton wouldn't sell them Van Dijk after their arrogance fucked that deal up.

Liverpool's a stepping stone for Keita like Kante and Leicester.

Just because Liverpool has been shit so far it doesn't mean they should have no pride and dignity, which are not exclusively reserved for elite, big clubs. You really can't blame any club for wanting to hold onto their players.

they did what was best for their club without coutinho who knows what position they'd be in

As things stand now they are tied with Burnley and Watford, while Newcastle is 2 points behind them none of those clubs have any star players. If they sold Coutinho they would have a shit load of money to solve the DM issues and CB issues (buying any of 100 CB's that are better than Lovren), while still retaining a stellar front line of Mane-Firmino-Salah (who performed amazingly even without Coutinho in the first few games), they would be a better team IMHO.

All that said, the Coutinho transfer saga had two endings for us:

The ok-ish ending: We get Coutinho, but we pay a shitload of money, so we can't do anything about the problems that will surface during this season (Suarez replacement being one).
The bad ending (which happened): We don't get Coutinho, we also don't have a plan B, so we are stuck with overplaying aging Iniesta and slow Rakitić.

We couldn't win this summer, because everyone knew we were loaded with cash.

They'll finish in the same position with or without him (6th) and win nothing with or without him. If they'd have bought defenders they may have done better.

So having Coutinho makes no difference to them. It would have done to us yet we have to miss out. So the whole thing has done nobody any good, least of all the player himself who has to waste another year there.

pass me that crystal ball when your done with it lol
if coutinho improves our team surely it improves liverpools

liverpool are not poor they would not of benefited from the sale of coutinho, they just simply couldn't get the names they wanted, and surely they would have an even harder time getting those names when your star leaves the team.
it's not like they didn't try to buy the proper players because of lack of funds.

edit: also the fact is if liverpool needed more than one position covered AND they sold coutinho teams would treat them like how they treat us, which would force them to overspend

liverpool did what was best for their club in the cost of causing a player unhappiness (even though he hasn't done too much damange)

Try? They wanted VVD and VVD only. Similar to our story with Coutinho. But the difference is that you are better with aging Iniesta in midfield (still not optimal) than Lovren and Moreno in defence (absolutly shit). There are at least 20 other defenders that are better than Lovren, easier to get than VVD and would improve Liverpool's defence significantly (look no further than Newcastle's Lascelles, De Light, or our Marlon on loan). So IMHO they didn't try properly.

I'm not going to act like i know what happened behind closed doors, so many deals go unannounced and without rumors

regardless my point stands them selling coutinho served them no benefits as much as we want to get the player.
now next summer they will probably respect coutinho's wishes to leave if he still desires to.
