Banging goals in a league were the list of strikers BBZ mentioned looked like stars, while playing for BAYERN is a lotta easier than anything Benzema & saurez had going for them, Period.

All goals in France & Germany are worth .75

Is having Muller, Ribery and Robben supplying you for years in weaker league really that much worse? Dont think so.

Lewa had close to ideal working conditions at Bayern.

Lewy's scoring rate doesn't drop without those teammates.

Post Robbery he continued scoring for fun.

Under Kovac, when Muller got phased out, Lewy was singlehandedly carrying Bayern.

100% true. Go to youtube and watch Lewy's goals and you will see that 90% of his goals are against cannon fodder opposition. In 2018 most Bayern fans would have been glad had he left -because of his constant big-game flopping.

Lewa scored 4 goals in 17 minutes against Real Madrid

Benzema 23 goals 20/21, 27 in 21/22 ( carries madrid to league & CL double)

No Ronaldo in sight.

Suarez 21 goals 20/21 carrys atletico to the league title, no Messi in sight.

Can you imagine what they would is for BAYERN in Germany.

Top4 CL scorers of all time are Cr7, Messi, Lewa and Benz.

Here is the problem:
1. either we were blessed that the best 4 strikers of all time played in the same decade
2. or, the football moved into a weird direction since 2005, due to internet and more money and rich teams started to be miles infront of other teams.
That created leagues where Bayern had 10 titles in a row, the same as Juve, Psg, Real+Barca.

If you are a striker who played for Barca, Real, Bayern for 10-15 years, you'll play in a CL every year, you'll play 10+ CL matches every year, your team will statpad in group stage against minows = and after 10-15 years, you'll be one of top scorers in a CL of all time.

Gerd Muller and Van Basten had 4-5 seasons of CL football with 20-30 matches in total.
Of course that Benzema and Lewa have more matches and more goals than them even though they can't be put in the same sentence skills wise.

Everything regarding league and CL football is inflated in the last 15-20 years due to a huge difference between rich and poor clubs and due to top players playing in top clubs (and CL every season) for 20 years.
Iirc, this is Messi's 19th CL.
And Ronaldo's 20th.

No wonder that the numbers are skewed and that it seems that all the best scorers ever somehow played in the last 15 years.

In 2030, the list of top6 CL scorers of all time will be: Cr7, Messi, Benz, Lewa, Haaland, Mbappe.

It'll be even worse.
All top players will be from the last 20-25 years.

So take all current stats with a grain of salt.

Good post. Selecao Talk on twitter has been raising this same point a lot. Perhaps past legends aren't given enough respect in comparison to modern stars.

It's also interesting how international football is the one area of the game unaffected by that change you mention with top clubs becoming so dominant over the rest and coincidentally a lot of the top modern players aren't nearly as dominant and clear of past greats there as at club level.

Because in the past, the national teams were the ones that were disproportionately stacked. Brazil 1958-1970. Cruyff's Dutch team. Germany with Beckenbauer AND Muller. Brazil 90s and 00s, especially 2002. Spain 2010. Italy 2006 and France 2006.

All time great players benefit from having other all time great players. Not exactly rocket science.

The reason Maradona is so adored is because he didn't have a stacked (he had a strong team tho) NT and won the WC. Massive achievement.

Messi was also always scoring.
Yet he stopped scoring at Psg.

Cr7 was also always scoring.
Yet he stopped scorinh at Man Utd.

Why?
In Messi's case: age, new country, a team not being built around him, more physical defenders.

Cr7?
A new team, age, tougher league.

In Germany, even these players managed to score a lot:
Andre Silva 28
Werner 28
Kramaric 20
Paco Alcacer 18
Sancho 17
Jovic 17
Havertz 17

And the main important thing: age.
Lewa will never be as fast as today.
In September, he will never be as fast as that again.
In October, he'll be slower, but still he will never be as fast as in October anymore.
In December, he'll be even slower. But still way better than what we'll see in April or May etc.

I don't get the belief of people who think that suddenly every player is the next Ibra or Cr7 in terms of ageing well.

Ronaldo didn't really stop scoring at Unted. He was 3rd top scorer in PL and hit 24 in all comps. Yeah it's a bit less than past seasons, but he also got less pens, played less minutes, had worse teammates, and was in not just a better league but also a far more physical one. I don't think he has actually declined that much as a goalscorer in the past few years.

The only concern I think with Lewa here is that the way Barca play is a bit different from Bayern and most top clubs and he might be a bit like Zlatan in not fitting in well. I don't think age, quality of teammates, or a different league are a concern for him.

Xavi's Barca plays exactly to Lewandowski's strenght. This is closest to 2006 and 2009 Barca when we used Eto'o as a 9. We are not trying to emulate the 2011 team at all and the signings reflect that.

If he gets his shooting straight, he's gonna score 25-30 in the league alone. Maybe more potentially with pens and everything.

Hilarious how the lads are rolling in the excuses for Lewa already.

If he doesn't score 35 goals in all competitions, he's a flop considering: 1) his recent Bundesliga record; 2) how much everyone of you was still hyping him up as an all system, all conditions goal scoring machine at or near the peak of his physical powers still.

The only thing that goes against Lewandowski scoring in numbers is that Barca don't really push hard once the game is done. Lost count back in the day how many times we could have scored 6-7 goals but instead took it easy by min 60 and passed the ball around for fun instead of going for max possible goals.

So, possibly less stat padding options, considering Bayern go crazy to drive the score up and Bundesliga teams don't know how to defend. Barca both tends to get lazy when in clear leads, and the opponents defend better.

This is a pretty recent phenomenon. Barca and RM had some absolutely bonkers attacking output in the league from 2009-2019.

We basically averaged over 100 league goals during this time period and had some seasons with 120 league goals (in 38 games lol).

Yeah 35 is a must imo. I would even say less than 40 in all competition would be disappointing.
