Ads or donations

Time has come and growing costs have prompted me to consider some options for making things a bit easier with the costs of running a forum. Monthly payments aren't that big but we are in for a long haul and when you sum it up since the October 2008, plus 2 licences and directory cost, it climbed up to 4 digits number.
I tried contacting some football related companies to advertise but all I got were betting/casino offers and since I wouldn't want the site to advertise gambling, I declined.
Ads don't necessarily mean a bad thing. Google offers option for advertising based on content of the website so if we went for that it would display football related ads. As for donations, it's up to you and whether you feel you can contribute and if we can't keep them up we can always turn to ads to raise some money.

Yeah, google adsense is pay per click but I can't encourage clicking and we can't have people clicking on them 24/7 as that would result of site being banned from that advertising program.

Think I said it before, but I'll say it again. I'd be glad to help out economically. Can't really donate any large sums but if we ad it up with other members I'm sure we could raise enough cash.

Furthermore, where would you place them? Just a Googla ads textline I assume?

On the other side, is this request/poll there because tge community/members are expanding? Or the upgrade to a new vBulletin version?

On the old forum we tried both and let me tell u and cut the chase.. go for Ads and gambling Ads even it doesn't matter as they won't accept minors anyway
donations won't cover the cost on a steady basis but with the forum community growing Ads is the more steady option..and there is nothing wrong IMO from getting a little of the money i lost on Bet365 for the forum.. i endorse it , AC Milan endorse it , Real Madrid endorse it

Lol Gio I agree I think ads would provide a steadier income. As long as they don't get in the way everywhere I don't think it will have much effect on the site tbh. I'm sure plenty of us could give a small donation but who knows how much that will add up to and how long it would last.

why don't we make donations first and then from that pile you can see how much costs are outstanding. Then you could go with ad revenue. why not see if the FCB sponsors would advertise here?

I don't like adds much especially if tehy r as Rivaldo says distracting etc, can contribute with a donation too so no probs, but whatever u decide am with ya.

I'd be fine either way. I do agree that advertising will bring in a steady stream of income, I usually just ignore ads but for you guys I wouldn't mind clicking a few.

You said google does football related ads, would that be like sporting websites, news websites and such?

Anyways either way this goes down I'll support it

Bojan, if we're going to talk about donations, you should give us a proper picture about how much you have to spend monthly about the forum, so we could actually judge if it'll be enough or not.

It's more easier to estimate, if you know what are you trying to reach.
