The club put itself in a bad situation too, leaving negotiations for a contract extension so damn late.

We had no Sporting Director until the elections. The B team was a mess during that time.
He also had an option for another year if promoted so waiting until things clearer might have been not unreasonable from the club POV

Would he have turned out as good here though with the sporadic game time he would most likely have been getting kinda the same as bartra

Except he would've knocked Alba off inside a couple of years. Pique, on the other hand, was always too tough to beat for Bartra. Also Grimaldo is a CM too, so that could've been an option for minutes.

Yes. The club's fault. The B team was a mess? The club's fault. Result-oriented when the B team can't get freaking promoted to the Primera Division. Hats off for them.

He had a year left on his deal and the club wanted to ship him off to Levante because Lucho clearly didn't rate him. In fact, it seems like Lucho didn't rate anybody from the time the B team was a mess because the team sulked and didn't fight without considering the mess the team was when it went from a kind of a developing program for Barca's best talents, to a team that looked to be at the top of the Segunda Division when it wouldn't have mattered as they can't get promoted.

Grimaldo is not the best thing since sliced bread, but he certainly looks like an absolute World Class talent with how well he is doing at Benfica attracting the interest of bigger clubs already.

Yeah the club made many mistakes with the B team, that doesn't make the club wrong about an individual decision with certain player.
Most Barca fan know that since Rossel took over La Masia hasn't been the same, and yeah we went to result oriented approach (and yet people still pray for the team to get in Segunda when it has proved to not being good for player development for a reserve team)
They offered him renewal when they knew that he won't get promoted to 1st team in time to get contract extended, they offered him loan when they felt it was the best for him. He turned down both and looked for the best for himself. Good for him but I don't see the club treating him very wrong.
Probably Lucho sole mistake regarding any of our young players so far. But the club can't force a player on the coach.

Yeah, it's not the club's fault our manager is a fucking moron. Playing Mathieu and Adriano as LB and watching them have shocker after shocker while we let our best young LB leave without so much as a first team debut...

Lucho is timid. He has to be forced to play any player from the youth system like a huge injury crisis.

Grimaldo, IMO moreso than Deulofeu, would be great for this Barca side under any coach that has the vision to use him well. LM in a 3-4-3, backup LB, hell even LCM. I've always rated Grimaldo as a fullback that has everything necessary to succeed in a midfield-esque role like we've seen with Alves, Alaba, and Marcelo. He's very intelligent, great on the ball, and very well rounded in his offensive capabilities. It pained me when he left because he is so talented and got virtually no valuable recognition for it when he was here. Lovely player, really hope to see him in our colors again.

Could always sign him back for 40m I guess considering he's in Benfica now.

Way to go Lucho.

Barca transfers last five years = Shambolic

Missed out on players like Modric, Kroos, heck even Spanish talents like Isco. Let Thiago leave. Grimaldo too who's got injury issues, but got everything to become a dominant player.
