André Gomes

Gomes has great overall physical tools actually,in terms of height speed & strength but he had no idea how to use it here.I think his point is that under another team and coach he could learn how to put those in use while playing more type of football that suits his game

Agreed. Let's see what happens under Valverde.

I liked him in that game. He is slowly starting to use his body strength to his advantage.

These are the noteable dribbles/runs whatever in the video if you want to skip the normal RB passes. I like how he always runs deep to give his pass-receiving player the opportunity for a one-two. Looks also way more comfortable with the ball at his feet. I hope he doesn't give a shit about the useless Confederations-Cup. Preseason is very important and he already missed most of last years preseason because of his holiday after the European Football Championship.

We should give this guy a break and listen to the Maestro:
Xavi said:
“André Gomes made a big difference in Valencia, but Barca is a different team. Barca is a big club and it is such an advanced team, that most players need a full season to get used to the play and to settle in. Many other great players as Thierry Henry, Abidal and Arda Turan went through the exact same thing. People needs to have patience with André Gomes. I am sure that we are going to see him playing with much more confidence, freedom and with a greater understanding of Barca’s play.”

I'm not sure about his ideal position (inb4 someone writing bench or transfer list) in our eleven yet. Although most won't agree with me, I would like to see him a few games as a winger. I have the feeling that he could use his strengths there way better than in our central midfield without getting exposed that much at his biggest weakness (defending/stealing the ball of the opponent without fouling). Probably right beside Messi if Valverde wants to establish his 4-2-3-1 (which I don't expect him to do) with Messi in the middle behind Suárez.

Barçapocalypse NOW!
Xavi talks a lot of bullshit... I love the guy, but in that very sentence he is wrong about Arda, who never fully adapted, so yeah...

I wouldn't go that far to say Arda hasn't adapted. He has, but he never was or will be a central midfielder. What is more, he is just lazy and doesn't seem to give a shit about anything. He is like Inter after Mou: Pressed out like a lemon.

Given his time on the pitch his numbers aren't bad. Hasn't played 2000 minutes but managed to score 13 goals and had 7 assists. Hope this helps us to get a good price for him.

Xavi, really... Sometimes I wonder what happened to you.

Not much I don't think. Xavi was never someone who's interviews I used to look forward to; he used to speak a lot of crap even back then. I remember his interviews where he used to talk about how we were unlucky and deserved to win games, where we had ridiculous possession stats and looked impotent af. He used to blame a lot of external factors, etc.

So yeah, I wouldn't be too surprised at some more silly comments from Xavi .

PS: I love the guy as much as the next barca fan :), just not his quotes.

I don't know what you guys expected him to say? André Gomes is shit and should be sold because he will never improve? He's just trying to paper over the cracks.

Let's hope Valverde can get the best out of him, new coach, new system, new start. Because I don't see the board selling him this summer. The only thing I'm gonna do is hope for Dr.Dre to improve

I agree with Xavi on Andre Gomes, but mentioning Arda... the Turk will adapt about... never. He is just living the Turkish dream of being the biggest celebrity, a Muslim icon on social networks, the other one being Mohamed Salah, who at least proves his reputation on the pitch.

My main hope at this point is that if Gomes doesn't show anything to Valverde in pre-season or in the first couple of months of regular season, he gets dropped instead of being awarded a starting spot in our biggest games, as he was under Lucho.
