Ángel Di María

This is where the Role and Position difference comes in.

Positionally, Bernardo may start as an RW but he's not a wide player so he'll naturally drift inwards into number 10 type positions and areas. Nothing like Dembele.

Barca need a winger with pace who can take players on or stay a lil wide.

If they could afford him, Raheem Sterling would unironically be a very good signing since he has an amazing burst of pace and can take on players and even hug the by-line and play.

Sterling has no vision and no final ball .. he is a tiny version of Adama !

He secured goals but all tap ins courtesy of KDB , Mahrez , or Bernardo Silva

Sterling has never been a touchline winger and has excelled when been given freedom to get central.

Has not been a nailed on part of City first eleven since Pep asked the left side to stay wider the past couple seasons.

Never in his career has he been an touchline winger to go at teams on outside either the way Dembele does.

Some awful takes today on this thread.

Lmao. Sterlimg used to hug the touchline and provide width for a lot of games in the last few seasons for City. Just because he hasn't done it in a while....... People need to watch City games from previous seasons before commenting.

Pep started to play wide players holding width since beginning of last season.. and Sterling dipped in form and hasnt been nailed since.

He has never been the type to drive at teams from wide with ball or get it into box.

As bad a claim as Silva/Di Maria comparison.

Clueless.

Keep at it though.

Sterling literally rose through the ranks at Liverpool because of his ability to drive at teams from the flanks and take opponents on. Can play either flank.

The sheer confidence in ignorance is cute.

Absolutely clueless and some of worst claims made on here.. comparing Silva/Di Maria and making out Sterling is a touchline winger.

Clueless.

Im oot.

Bernardo Silva and Di Maria are completely different players. Sterling played out wide for LFC when he was very young, and maybe a bit once first signed by City. Otherwise, 90% of the time he's been at City he has neither played or thrived as a far wide winger.

Rumours of Bernardo leaving (he won't), Sterling and Mahrez (and Jesus) both with a year left on their contracts. I wonder who Pep plans to bring in to replace them.

Pep better work his second season magic with Grealish, but even so, plenty of changes upcoming in the wide positions of City this and next summer. Same with Liverpool with Mane and Salah expiring next summer.

What a time to have no money and be needing players in those positions too. We better hope Angelo Gabriel returns from injury for Santos and becomes the real deal. Because as things stand we're going to struggle to bring in Raphinha let alone talents at a higher level that will interest other big clubs.

Di Maria and possession-based football isn't necessarily a good combination though.
Di Maria is no stranger to taking risks, and therefore, losing the ball, i seem to remember Van Gaal wasn't thrilled about it at United, so probably Xavi will be fustrated too.

🚨🎖| Angel Di Maria is not an option for the club but rather a TARGET that Barcelona are working on getting. @tjuanmarti

Let's go

So let's see.

Alves(39)-Pique(35)-xxxx-Alba(33)
------Busquets(34)--------
----xxxx--xxxxx------
Di Maria(34)-------xxxxx-
-------Lewa(34)----------

Imagine that outfield lineup next season. Somehow we release Messi, Suarez, Rakitic and Vidal in consecutive seasons, and get an older 11
