He's just one year older than Neymar. I think 4-5 years high performance in this market for 100 mill plus wages is fine. 100 mill right now feels like value
Nope to expensive. Paying so much for players at that age is killing your self especially when you look at our squad age. When we have a squad with only youngsters than it makes more sense.
Can we kill this thread and make it disappear to the second page!
Great idea.

Griezmann is 27 next summer. 100m for 3 seasons plus sky high wage and no sell-on value after those years is not a good investment.

Jesus! You're making out like he's 31 or something. By next year he'll be in his prime and will have at least 4 good seasons left in him. Well worth the 100m euros..... especially with the market being crazy. And next year will be even crazier.

I'd say 3 good seasons left. No real sell-on value after that. So 33m transfer fee+20m wage per year. Thats alot for someone we wont be able to get money for to fund squad rejuvenation. He might be great at 31 but its not very likely. Look at Eto'o, Van Persie, Forlan, Iniesta and others. We cant count on players being the best in the world at 31. Its rare. Players like Eto'o, Van Persie etc moved to lower levels at that age.

Sell on value shouldn't matter to an elite club. We're not Southampton.

Yeap, clearly worth 100m next year, problem is that we won't be the only ones wanting him, so the release clause will just be a starting point... cause from then on we will have to offer him the best package.

It should. Not getting any revenue from sales is a big problem for Barca. Compare that to RM which got more than 100m for Danilo and Morata. 24m for Jese. We cant ignore the value of our players. Especially since we need all the funds we can get in the coming years to fund the replacements of Suarez and Messi. Lets say we sign someone who is 22 years old, get 7 great years out of the player and manage to sell him at 29 for 70m. Compare that to signing 27 year olds who we give a 5 year contract, have 3 great years, 2 crappy years with high pay and 0m in sales revenue. Its makes a big difference.

Real Madrid are not signing those players as 'investments', they are just selling players who have failed or seen as not good enough. Just like we did with Alexis and Fabregas. Danilo was signed to possibly replace Carvajal but turned out to be nowhere near as good.

No big club uses the transfer market as a revenue stream aside from the likes of chelsea and their youth academy. The only reason we should buy a player is if we feel they will improve our team. If Morata was happy to stay on Real's bench he would still be there

You are wrong there. RM sign players they know they can get a good price for if they fail. Its good business. Signing players in their late 20s looking for their last big contract is not something RM do. Notice how RM almost exclusively sign players younger than 25. There is a reason for that. Such players have a lot of years left in them and the value of the squad will stay high for many years. The value of players plummet once they hit 30.

You mean like they did with James?

Yes, far more likely to get 45m for James (10m loan fee plus 35m purchase option) than if they had signed a 29 year old and kept him until 32 with 2 more years to go on a sky high wage contract. Look, is it likely that we will get a great price for Arda? No. Is it likely that RM will get a great price for Asensio or Isco? Yes. Is it likely they will get a great price for Kovacic? Yes. Is it likely that we will get a great price for Vidal or Vermaelen? No. If Suarez flops big time this season because of his age, will we get a good price for him next summer? No. We wont get any money for him. We might be lucky but it is very unlikely. He will be considered finished.

In 2014 Real signed James and we signed Suarez. Both were about the same price yet Suarez was 4 years older. I think we both know which transfer was better, right?

Didn't we have offers for Arda from China? He just didn't want to leave.

Maybe Galatasaray would offer something? Or maybe we could talk to Fener or Besiktas so they would bid too putting pressure on his old club.

Yes, of course James was underwhelming and found it very difficult to get into the starting eleven. He's a very good player though. I am not saying that it is impossible for 23 year olds to fail and impossible for 28 year olds to succeed. But the value in the 23 year old signing is much better on average.
