Antoine Griezmann

So, apparently this spoiled boy wants to only go back to Atleti

And Atleti is using the opportunity to pass us their garbage (in Saul), when they just signed the player we need (De Paul).
No way this swap shall go through.

Either they send this way Joao Felix or forget about their swap (as I don't see any Atletico md filling our holes apart from De Paul).
And this cocky and spoiled kid should be told by Laporta himself that either he is gonna earn 10m or less net and be a benchwarmer at Barca next season OR he is going to OK any interested club to transfer him out

Everyone knows Barca is desperate to reduce the wage bill, so not a great position to negotiate a transfer like Griezmann. It's obvious his departure would be a huge relief for the club and possibly the key to register Messi and new signings so it will be hard to get any good offers from the already limited number of teams that could afford him.

Making him a benchwarmer and still paying his wages, would be dumb...business is about leverage and he has it all

Not really, is he going to sit on the bench? I doubt it. He wants to play World Cup.

That's the big card in Laporta's hand to make him accept the transfer that suits the club, and not whatever this spoiled ass wants

If you read carefully, you would see I said reduce his wages below 10 net. He is now getting above 20m net

We don't really need cash. Our main problem are high wages not liquidity.

Anyway, current MV According to TM

Griezmann 60m
Saul 40m

Griezmann's value on the books is still around 80m (which we won't get) but offloading his wages would still cover whatever loss we'd have to take if selling. I think realistically we should still target for somewhere between 50-60m though. If both clubs would negotiate a possible swap then they'd obviously try to raise/lower prices of both players (to their benefit) but something like Saul + 10-15m for Griezmann would be doable imo.

Saul's value has dropped over the last year even if he should be in his prime years and still has 5 years left on the contract. And they're apparently also ready to move on from him given they've already signed his supposed replacement in De Paul. If Simeone would really push for Griezmann's return I think this swap is possible. But in the end it would probably depend mostly on Saul. Would he as a lifelong Atletico player and fan really consider a move to one of domestic rivals or would he prefer to go abroad? Surely Atletico fans consider Real as their biggest rival but we've seen how they've reacted to Griezmann's transfer here. Would be even worse if one of their own products would do the same and I'm sure fans reaction would be in Saul's mind as well.

And I'm also not really worried about his potential decline. He just had one poor season but the same happened to Koke in previous 12-18 months and he recovered his form this season. Simeone is one of the most demanding coaches and his players get both physically and mentally exhausted at some point and need time to regenerate. A change of scenery could also benefit him. Saul at his best is a great player and if he'd come here I'm sure he would give us 3-4 very good years at least.

It's not a matter of form.
He is far from the profile we need. He is slow and technical.
We need a pacey, strong, dynamic, and agile midfielder.

Let alone that is not WC but 2nd tier player.

Steer clear from him

Don't hang me for this Barto idea, but would an inflated swap deal help? Atleti pay 80m for Griezmann, we buy Saul for 60m. Or is there a limit to how much we can spend? There was something about only 25 % of the income being available.

But I don't think Saul would add hat much to our midfield in the long run. Not the best profile to complement Pedri and Frenkie.

Thank you. Well said. I don't even understand why Koeman wants Saul so bad.

I would rather sell Griezmann for 40m and get EC. Saul + 20m is genuinely a bad deal.

Well said.

Also, leaving aside the decline of Saul, his age and his profile are spot on. He's like a younger Wijnaldum. Great at shooting, appearing in the box, physical player who runs a lot.

This profile is lacked in the team, someone box-to-box to allow De Jong to play farther back. Someone who can add goals, shots from long range, and is reasonably fast and strong.

Don't think he's slow. He's clearly faster than Busi. I know he still has his fans but we need to phase him out of the lineup.

We also need to be realistic. We can't buy a midfielder for 30-40m right now that would immediately improve the team. So swap deals are our only options and from who is at least somewhat realistically available Saul is by far the best.

If he get's back on track Saul would be a decent addition for the midfield. Frenkie, Pedri, Saul, maybe another physical midfielder down the road...that's not too shabby. He's also still fairly young so at least we wouldn't be stuck with yet another old player in case it's not working out perfectly.

At the end of the day there probably won't be that many offers for Griezmann, so we'll have to see what's possible and consider every opportunity. Getting rid of his ridiculous salary will be a high priority i'd imagine so can't be too picky.
