Anyone missing Ray Hudson? (the football commentators thread, because we need one)

Well, basically this. In Messi era this guy went absolutely nuts. He loved that guys so much, it was obvious. But in general, he loved beautiul genius football and had a rich vocabulary to describe it in detail. Not everyone liked it, but he's definitely one of legends of commentary. He praised Madrid and any other club players and shouted for their achievements as true professional.

What i find in modern/latest football (and all sports) commentary that they all seem like created by ChatGPI. Bland, soulless, some minor substance to distract you, but basically not giving a fuck.

Can you spot some good commentators in now days that aren't just drones of corporate media? Also pundits.

Maybe you'll like Peter Drury.

It's Premier League though. Loved his commentary during the 2022 World Cup as well, especially in the final when Argentina won.

Not really

He was an ok commentator for Barca and Madrid la liga matches back in the day during Messi/Ronaldo era although much prefer ESPN having the rights to bein.

Hearing him trying to commentate matches without those players/teams on CBS now ain't pretty.

Yeah Ray Hudson had a similar footballing view as mine. He was obviously a bit over the top with his pre-planned metaphors and similes, but I think it was light-hearted and fun. At the same time, he was obviously very passionate about football, and could enjoy different styles of play as well. It was a long time ago now that I watched a game he commentated, but back in that 00 period, from the time Ronaldinho came along and I believe Ray was commenting on "GolTV", to the time that Barcelona started to dominate, I regularly chose to watch an SD stream on sopcast with him rather than watch on my national TV, and all the games that were not sent on national TV here, I always looked for his channel to illegally stream.

"he needs help like a fish needs a bicycle"

Should mention that he always saw and commented on those genius and elegant Busquets moves, something I enjoyed very much.
