40m for a squad player?

Imo he was bought to be starter who would slowly be given minutes and replace rakitic from the starting spot completely after some time. But his performances were far from expected and he ultimately had to settle to be a rotation player.
Even gomes is here for 40m and we don't know for sure if he will be a starter one day. In fact more chances are that he won't.

arda won't make it, but gomes at least has time on his side. Neither were brought to be squad players, though.

What is a squad player though? As i said,arda was brought to be a starter but failed to.
Gomes is quality but he will need to improve a lot to be a starter for us considering how many midfielders we have. I would love to see him become that good but its pretty improbable. I doubt he was brought here as a 'starter' becuase that would have meant putting rakitic on the bench.

Gomes was signed because of his potential most of all. So as I see it, the management thought they could transition and develop him into a starter.
Arda definitely was signed to play a bigger role than the LW backup though. Don't pay 41m incl. incentives(34+7) for a 28/29 year old player for that.

Keita was a squad player. Mathieu, digne, rafinha, cillesen, denis, all are as well. Arda can't be put together with them.

He was not brought in to be Iniestas replacement, but certainly to rest him and make the hole Xavi left less damaging.
It is quite clear that he hasn't been a success, and Lucho did not see him as a LW-backup that is for sure. Lucho also wanted Nolito very badly but the board rejected his wish - and the 18M. Nolito (who would accept LW-backup-role) looks like a better buy, if LW-backup was the thing we wanted, imo.

I'm displeased with Arda's performance regardless of goals and assists, which is his best feature by a mile this season. It's quite clear he'll never cut it as a midfielder. That fuckery vs Real Madrid was for some, including me, close to unforgivable. And his first six months were disappointing too. I'm not one to give too much importance to G+A in the case of both Turan and Neymar as opposed to say Suarez, given how the formers spend a lot more time on the ball. Their level of play is inconsistent and overall, disappointing.

What I know is that if all our players are fit and we have to play a really important match, arda will probably sit out. So will gomes.

That's pretty much why Arda is an underwhelming signing. Gomes is young, at least. He can improve, or be sold for a good fee. His agent would help with that. Arda was just a waste, so far.

He was bought to bring quality to the squad. Yes, he's been crap in midfield but decent at LW.
Also people need to get used to the reality of the market. If an EPL side bought him the price would either have been the same or slightly less.

His signing was bullshit, yes. He didn't bring the quality he was supposed to, either. So far he really didn't live up to what was expected.
