What does his form have to do anything with other Atletico Madrid players?

I like Maffeo and I wish he was in the national team, but Molina is better than him.

Molina has a slight edge but Maffeo is remarkably consistent too. Julioe Soler really needs to be given the left back spot to grow into over the next 18 months. I expect a big money move to Europe might force Scaloni's hand. You would hope anyway.

With both Tagliafico and Romero in doubt, I would play the following vs Peru

—--------------Martinez—-Messi
Garnacho—--Lo Celso----Enzo—-Palacios
Medina—----Balerdi—----Otamendi------Montiel
------------------------Dibu

Sub in Castellanos, Almada, Perez, Paredes, Paz

If I had my way:
-----------------------------------Martinez-------------------------------------------
--Maffeo-------------Romero-----------------Senesi-----------------Soler---------
-----------------------------------Varela-------------------------------------------
--------------------MacAllister(c)------------------------------------------------------
---------------------------------------------------Paz------------------------------
------------------------------------Alvarez---------------------------------------
-----------Messi-------------------------------------------Garnacho---------------

Good to see you here good sir.

Agree with you, the likes of Senesi, Varela, Medina, Maffeo and Soler need to move to a bigger club so that it forces Scaloni's hand.

It's needed so the team can be assessed properly. Friendlies are simply not the same as competitive matches. Mind you if Argentina didn't qualify from CONMEBOL would be the greatest shock of all almost narrowly achieved in 2010 by Diego & 2018 by the incompetent clowns at the AFA.
True, fair point - it shoots a team in the foot to not be playing competitive matches. Like you say it almost happened in 2010.

The night Maradona did that slide I won £100 off a £1 stake lol, 100/1 odds on an acca. It is the best bet I have ever had in terms of value.

Do you know that Aurelius guy? He seems to have the same very high level of knowledge and passion you do for Argentina NT. Maybe he himself is Argentinean?

Yeah I know, he posts here from time to time.

He knows a lot about the Argentina team more than I do, especially the local talents in Argentina. He's not Argentinian, but has a great interest in the national team.

Fair enough, thanks. I think that's the first time I have seen him posting, he has a lot of knowledge about the side, hope he keeps posting in here in the lead up to the World Cup.

Me too. Really he doesn't need to wait until next year. I want to see the talent coming through being given the chance to play competitive matches not friendlies against Estonia where you learn very little about them. Their mentality & ability to cope with real pressure & real physicality which in CONMEBOL is a step up from what they experience in Europe although parallel to their club experiences.

In my opinion despite winning the Copa performances have been on the slide commensurate with certain players. I think one or two are complacent, others have not kept their eye on the ball like Enzo (Messi is as fine an example of a family man & commitment to his art which the likes of Enzo could learn from) & quite frankly several are over the hill.

Why Otamendi, Pezzella, Acuna, Paredes have been left around the side I do not know. The defence badly needs a overhaul in every spot barring CB1 & GK. You need time to develop a back unit & chemistry between them. Every match the likes of Soler, Maffeo, Senesi, Balerdi are not around it gives less & less time for this to develop. The best teams have units that know that when their chum is pressing or attacking the ball they know where they will be to cover anything else. To be frank I think Romero has made Otamendi look far better than he is.

The irony of it all is that the player who could still perform for the seleccion di Maria has retired. I do like one thing Scaloni has done & that is bring in youngsters to train alongside the seniors. Something that should have been done a long time ago & something which Los Pumas do.

2026 if the selections are correct is another good chance of a title. But I think 2030 is a even better chance with the incredible talents coming out of the Primera. That is if they keep developing as they do. Two star CBs (Anselmino & Tobias Palacio), two absolute pearls of central & attacking midfielders (Mastantunono & Parmo) & a winger in the style of a fast Corbatta of old. And the likes of Romero, Enzo, Julian & Mac will still be there as a core to build around.

Lautaro could play for Messi. The front four would do the bulk of the work as they do have high rates of press & coverage. The aim being to win the ball high up especially against weaker sides & probably with draw Paz against stronger sides. The back three to remain compact but using Romero to direct play from deep & alternate overloading when needed of either flank with Maffeo & Soler who are both comfortable going forward. In time Perrone for Varela as his passing is even more accurate. He just keeps things ticking over.

Not Argentine. English. Watched Argentina for the first time in 86 & can remember the goal of the century, sun streaming into the living room, mum out with friends (didn't care for football) Dad had gone to the kitchen for a beer. Even as a small kid there was something about the way the ball was stroked around by the side & of course Diego.

Shouted for Dad you won't believe this. Hurry up to see the replay. It was mesmerizing and even then you could see what an incredible achievement that it was. Dad being an England fan was disappointed but he did enjoy great footballers & he rated Maradona, Hullit, van Haneghem ahead of Cruyff, Kempes & so on.

Only watched Argentina live twice in 18 at the damp squib v Italy at the Emptyhad & 22 at Wembley the Finalissima. That was one hell of a party. I know most of the Argentina fan songs so makes it even more fun.

That's me singing the anthem. Chap in front with cap was Carlos all the way from Racing Club in BA with his wife Bendicta. The passion & colour of the hinchas is the best in the world.
