According to AS, the red and whites have bidded for both Luciano Vietto and Nolito this week, two of La Liga’s surprise stars in the season just gone.

Not just that, but the two players have also come out and publicly declared their desire to play at the Vicente Calderón, which suggests that deals could very well be on the cards.

Vietto in particular is a signing that would make a lot of sense. The 21 year-old knows Simeone well, having made his debut back in 2011 under his stewardship at Argentine side Racing Club.

The Villarreal frontman scored the winning goal in a 1-0 win against his former manager’s side in December, and is apparently the subject of a €20m bid.

“If Atleti pay my buy-out clause, everybody wins,” he said on Friday, and it appears that his wish may have been granted.

However, the Yellow Submarine are not ready to let him go without a fight, and are working on a contract renewal to keep him at El Madrigal for another year. Liverpool and Arsenal are reportedly interested as well.

Nolito on the other hand has an €18m release clause, and AS claimed a few days ago that Atleti had made an offer of €10m.

Cholo is keen to bring more goals to the team from midfield next season, and with 27 goals in the last couple of years he is one that certainly looks to fit the bill.

A late bloomer, the Celta Vigo winger has recently broken into the Spanish national team and would supposedly be available for around €14m.

“Who wouldn’t want to play for Atlético?”, he told press in an interview last week.

Of course, should the two moves materialise there would need to be outgoings, and as expected, Griezmann and Mandzukic are already being linked elsewhere.

On Monday, AC Milan CEO Adriano Galliani was pictured meeting with Andrea Berta in a Madrilenian restaurant, and admitted that the Croatian striker was one of the topics of discussion. His asking price may be a deterrant for the Rossoneri, but they are not the only club who admire him.

Griezmann is also earning interest most notably from Bayern Munich, as well as the likes of PSG and Chelsea. Atleti sent a delegation to London last week, although it could have been to discuss a possible Alderweireld-Filipe Luís swap, which MARCA hinted at this morning.

The club are already working on an improved contract for the Frenchman with a higher buy-out clause, and it seems much more likely that Mandzukic will be the one who does eventually go.

Also in town this week was Enzo Francescoli, River Plate legend and current sporting director.

Gil Marín met with him earlier in Buenos Aires earlier in the month to discuss the signings upcoming stars Matías Kranevitter and Emmanuel Mammana, and his presence in the Spanish capital suggests that a deal could be close.

That'd be really great business. If Atletico manage to hold their players like Griezmann then they'll be right up there in the title race again.

Nolito is going to Valencia, no? Anyway, will be good to see Mandzukic get tae fuck out of the club. Think Atleti have gotta spring for Camacho too.

I honestly underestimated Mandzukic's flaws for the Atleti system. Seeing him run down a throughball or get involved in plays with even an inkling of pressure is one of the most frustrating sights in football. It seemed a good fit cause of his physicality and all as a penalty-box striker but in reality they need to drop him ASAP. It didn't help that this season their best backup for him was Torres who inspires as much fear in defenders as a tamed housecat with his dull skills and sluggish reflexes.

Vietto is a great talent, one that I would've liked to see at Barca tbh. I know it's hard to rotate in with a force like MSN but I feel like the whole 'never resting them' philosophy was one that could only work with consistency at the business end of the season, even then I was surprised we didn't have injuries. Nevertheless this creates a new formula for Atletico since they'd be playing without a true physical #9 but with the quality of Griezmann/Vietto, it can damn well work. Also hope that Simeone wises up and moves Koke to the middle so that a dynamic duo of Arda/Correa can play on the wings.

Nah, I'd rather that Simeone didn't "wise-up."

If Lucho and this Barca side can maintain a level roughly close to this next year (and that'd be an entire season, not just the 2nd half like in 14/15) then I'd still have us as statistical favorites for all 3 competitions, no matter Atletico's improvement. However, Real Madrid without Ancelotti and potentially losing Benzema to have CR play in the center? Atleti can take them down a peg, no question.

It'd be a joy to have RM 3rd in the league and losing any cup meetings they have (they met in 3 different cup competitions this season, seems to be a common occurrence now).

Vietto and Jackson Martinez is just absolutely magnificent business.

If Griezmann leaves now, Vietto would be a direct replacement. There are rumors of Bayern Munich and Chelsea considering buying Girezmann for 60-65 million euros. If true, Atletico Madrid would have done a good business selling Griezmann and Mandzukic for a combined fee of 84 million euros, and buying Martinez and Vietto for a combined fee of 55 million euros. With additional sale of Miranda for 15 million euros, they'd have 45 million euros more to spend.

Jackson Martinez has not signed yet and being linked with Arsenal again.

Martinez wants to go to Atletico and terms have been agreed between the clubs. It'll have to take a hell of a lot for Arsenal to persuade otherwise.

He may well end up at Atletico but he is not there yet and these stories about terms having been agreed etc have been coming out about 3/4 clubs not just Atletico.

Fantastic business, and it looks like they'll "only" lose Mandzu and Miranda.

Guess the new owner is really serious about turning them into consistent contenders :worthy:

Where are the "Madrid is Red" banners?

Vietto, Jackson Martinez, Griezmann, Correa. Firepower there. Koke is staying and they've brought Oliver Torres back too. Saul making great progress.

They're trying to get Filipe Luis back as well and it's been quiet regarding Arda so he might stay too.

They're looking quite good right now. Griezmann might go if someone is willing to pay his buyout, but at the moment, they're doing very well in the transfer market and with how their team is shaping up.
